Spring has sprung, bringing new player housing decor packs for sale for real money

This week saw the release of Blizzard’s first significant decor pack for WoW Player Housing on the Blizzard online store. They had previously released a pack with several plushies and launched the Hearthsteel system, but this release was far more extensive.

The new packs are themed around spring. Seasonal packs or events always somewhat confusing for me as someone who lives in the Southern Hemisphere — we’re accustomed to celebrating Halloween in Spring and Easter in Autumn, let alone Christmas in Summer. But to quote the late, great Tom Lehrer,I think the loveliest time of the year is the spring.

There are four packs and a bunch of individual items available. Two of the bundles are priced solely in Hearthsteel, and two of the packs have you purchasing Hearthsteel with bonus decor items included in the purchase.

Small Starter Decor Pack

Priced at US$15, this comes with:

The doormats can be purchased individually for 200 Hearthsteel each.

Large Starter Decor Pack

Priced at US$35, this comes with:

The gazebos can be purchased individually for 800 Hearthsteel each.

Spring Blossom Decor Pack

Priced at 2,500 Hearthsteel this Cherry Blossom themed pack comes with a whopping 21 pieces of decor:

Additional Wreaths, Ceiling Lights, or Windows can be purchased for 100 Hearthsteel each. Additional Hanging Chairs, Shelves, and Trees can be purchased for 250 Hearthsteel each.

Note that this pack when originally launched was being sold with one tree and additional trees were 750 Hearthsteel a pop. This has since been rectified and Blizzard have stated they will either refund the difference for individual purchases, or provide the two additional trees for people who purchased the bundles.

Lush Garden Decor Pack

Priced at 2,500 Hearthsteel this Easter themed pack comes with 33 pieces of decor:

Additional eggs can be purchased for 10 Hearthsteel each, Gnome-Like Statues for 50 Hearthsteel each, Sconces for 100 Hearthsteel each, Basins and Chairs for 250 Heathsteel each, and finally Fountains for 500 Heathsteel a piece. At this time either is not possible to purchase additional trellis items. This seems to be an oversight and may change.

Limited Time Bundle Purchases and FOMO

These bundles are all tagged as limited time items, advertised as being available until April 23, 2026. At the same time that these bundles launched, the earlier Plushie pack bundle was withdrawn, however the individual items are still available for purchase. Compared to the cost of buying this number of items individually, the bundles do represent a substantial per-item discount, and the way the plushies have been treated suggests the individual items may remain available for purchase after the 23 April deadline — but there are no guarantees this will be the case.

Beyond the seasonal nature of these items, making them a limited time item will be intentional to motivate people to buy them ‘just in case’, a fairly common marketing technique. Community sentiment has been fairly divided on the value of, and the consequences of microtransactions. Ultimately it’s up to you whether you see this as a good use of your hard earned cash, either in real life or in game — converting gold to Blizzard Balance to purchase Hearthsteel.
