Blizzard slashes the Voidlight Marl cost of housing decor items in Midnight
If you suffered from a bit of sticker shock the first time you opened up a Player Housing decor catalog in Midnight, then good news — the price of many decorations that cost Voidlight Marl has been reduced by a significant amount.
Voidlight Marl serves as this expansion’s catch-all reward. You get a little bit from nearly every end-game activity that you complete in Midnight, much like the Resonance Crystals that we collected in The War Within. Marl is actually a clay-like substance found in deposits on Earth in places like the Cliffs of Dover, so if you’re like me and having trouble picturing it, we’re basically collecting bits of void mud and exchanging bucketfuls for transmog, mounts, and other cosmetic rewards.
During the first week of Midnight, the price of Player Housing decor was prohibitively high. In a hotfix that has since rolled out, Blizzard “Significantly reduced the prices of decor that are sold for Voidlight Marl.” While some items like the Bejeweled Silvermoon Chandelier got their cost chopped by a third, others like Goldenmist Grapes saw their price drop by a factor of five. In general, costs for decor renown rewards and extra copies of decor quest and achievement rewards now seem to be reduced based on the size, impressiveness, and source of the decor.
This is obviously very welcome news to those of us who have hoarded their Voidlight Marl since the beginning of the expansion due to the sheer number of options to buy and the fear of finding the perfect sconce just after spending everything on drapes. Since each copy of an adornment requires purchase, those initial high costs were quickly adding up — lining a hallway with Reverent Sin’dorei Statues would previously set players back tens of thousands of marl, but a reduction in cost to 500 each could bring that inspiration board to life.
Of course, players who specialize in interior decoration over the other features of World of Warcraft are left with the short end of the Harandar Glowvine Lamppost. Anyone who spent Voidlight Marl on Player Housing decor before the price slash is out of luck, since no retroactive corrections or refunds are currently making their way through the Azerothian mail system.
Which side of the coin did you end up on? Are you excited to be able to enjoy the increased decor purchasing power of your hard-earned currency, or are you filled with regret for furnishing your dining room days before the biggest sale in Player Housing history?
