The Queue: please say it’s time for bed

I have a ton of stuff going on both IRL and around the site, so of course this week I got sick and pulled like three muscles. It’s fine, everything’s fine.

This is The Queue, our daily column where you ask us questions and I’m just gonna sit here until I can go to bed.

XERIANNE

Q4tQ: So I’ve been into delves this go around so far unlike TWW; Had me wondering for those who do them which have you preferred so far the delves of TWW or Midnight? Any particular reason why?

Midnight hands down for me. The top reason is that I don’t particularly enjoy caves. In TWW even the Delves in the single non-cave zone were mostly caves (or windowless ruins, same difference). Also, when Valeera goes haring off into the wild blue yonder, she has the decency to stealth, and is less likely to pull the entire cave down on our heads. Brann just pulled the whole cave regardless.

One thing I’ll give TWW is that most of the Delves seemed far more spread out than the Midnight ones. I would probably do Grudge Pit only enough times to get the achievements and then never go back if we still had Brann, even though I love being Dastardly Rotstalk.

Q4tQ At which point does having crafted BiS become a necessity for group activities? Will a +10 group or a heroic raid team reject someone for having two embellished crafted items that aren’t the BiS options?

It will never be necessary to have a BiS just to participate in group activities, unless you are in a top 10 bleeding edge guild, and even then it’s only one piece in your toolkit. That said, yes, of course a raid team will reject you. Raid teams reject people for any and all reasons. Heck, PUGs reject people for not having BiS. It’s a PUG, man, calm down.

If you’re looking for something longer-term, in my opinion the focus should generally be more on a culture fit anyway, though loot and gearing attitudes dovetail into that. If you want your culture to insist on BiS, that’s valid, but if you want to give people plenty of wiggle room that’s fine too. It’s just about finding where your vibe is.

Q4TQ: what’s the point of using those Summoning 101 and Summoning 404 books in The Shadow Enclave? You summon a mob, kill it, but you don’t seem to gain anything out of it.

They are generally pretty strong minions, and will attack either you or the opponent if you summon them in the middle of a fight. Sometimes you get lucky, and the summoned mob does most of the work for you. Sometimes you have to feign death and then Valeera starts attacking it anyway and it’s a whole hassle. I usually use them for the three-packs of Nullaeus mobs (Valeera breaks my CC on those anyway).

THE LIGHTNING ROUND WITH RJ

Yeah I have a LOT of questions! First of all, how dare you?

Favorite modern (within the last hundred or so years) work of fiction?
Favorite TV show?
Do you secretly enjoy reality TV? If so, which show?
If you were trapped in a basement and allowed to write seven words in a plea for help, what’s your message?

Within the last hundred years includes my favorite book, Rebecca by Daphne DuMaurier. Check and mate. In terms of other fictions, my favorite game story of late is likely either SOMA or Immortality (with heavy content warnings for both).

My all-time favorite TV show is probably Six Feet Under though that definitely isn’t the one I’ve watched the most. You kinda need to sit down and devote your attention for that one. I also adored Lovecraft Country, even though Lovecraft’s actual works are so freakin cringe in terms of having to tapdance your way around his blatant racism (even against like, the Italians). In terms of show on -> brain off, probably Parks and Recreation.

I have a secret love for specific reality TV. The older school Real World/Road Rules and even Survivor never did it for me. But I adored Flavor of Love. I guess I just really like a twist on a genre.
