The Queue: Wait, I’m not supposed to play Diablo 4 as a dating sim?

I mean, it’s kind of hard for me to believe it when people tell me that Diablo 4 is an ARPG and not How I Met Everyone’s Mother with my burly Barbarian regaling her presumably winged children with the story of how she met Lilith.

Come on, she’s literally telling me how much I need her up there. It’s not subtle.

A fly has entered my apartment. I have turned off the lights so he will be attracted to the windows, so that I may then spray it, shooting it down, and leaving it vulnerable to squishing.

I am waiting.

I just wait until my cat gets bored enough.

THOMAS STRANGE

I’m going switch gears here a tad. I’ve been an outspoken advocate for ethereals and brokers as a single, playable allied race. I mean… we saved their world! We restored the Oasis! We fought Salhadaar and his evil minions! Other stuff, probably!

But in 12.0.7 there’s a world inhabited by evil ethereals and we have to keep fighting them. So that’s it. Ethereals are just NPCs. Same as it ever was. I don’t think they’ll arrive as an allied race, which is too bad because I really liked them. Same with the naga. Whatever they’re doing under the sea, and the weird “working with blood elves to get arcane stuff,” bleh, we’ve heard it a million times. I’m over it.

If we get another allied race in Last Titan (not unreasonable, but we do have a lot), I think it will be something totally unexpected and like… new to the Last Titan. Some previously unknown race in Northrend that we never saw before. Nope, not nerubians, even though we saved their kingdom or whatever (see also “ethereals and K’aresh”). Something that makes sense for Last Titan but we’ll never see it coming because it doesn’t currently exist in game.

I’m going to speculate a bit here.

I think we’ll get two new Allied Races in The Last Titan. One is going to be Vrykul of some capacity, because we’re going to Northrend and I figure the Earthen can chat with their various ‘cousins’ and talk them into joining up. The other will be the Nethersent, if they don’t end up as playable before that.

I personally hope that if they do introduce Vrykul/Iron Vrykul/Odyn’s weird Dead Vrykul in Lightning Bodies and Nethersent Draenei, they give both to both factions. If not, then I think give the Vrykul to the Horde (let the Humans see what it’s like when your relatives join the Horde instead of you) and the Nethersent to the Alliance just so we finally get Draenei Warlocks.

I have next to no use for new races, because a) there hasn’t been a new skeleton since Pandaren* and clearly Blizzard isn’t interested in new skeletons, and b) I would need new classes and specs FAR more than new races that do the same thing with a slight skin change.

* My understanding is that dracthyr are made of skeletal fragments of other races, but I could be very well misremebering.

The problem, of course, is that DRACTHYR DON’T GET ANY BENEFIT TO TRANSMOG, so they’re dead to me regardless.

But I’d murder for a real mechanical race. MECHAGNOMES DO NOT COUNT, THEY’RE ABOMINATIONS BEFORE THE LIGHT AND THE VOID. Maybe old school Mimoron-style mechagnomes or iron dwarves, but something like D&D warforged or PF2 automatons would be great.

I feel like we’ve really forgotten the Golems with all these fancy Titan-Forged and Earthen and so on. Dwarves have been making rock and metal punchy animated statues for a long time now, and we’ve even seen elaborate enhanced versions like the Omnotron Defense System.

Imagine there’s some clan of Dwarves — and yes, it has to be actual Dwarves, not Earthen — who in desperation have created intelligent Golems to defend them from the often inimical forces like Void, Fel and Death magics. Maybe the intelligence wasn’t even their intention — maybe they were working with some old magic writings kind of like what turned Magni into a statue and instead of servitor Golems they ended up with self aware Warrior Statues.

That’s a potential Warcraft version of things like the Warforged or Automatons without just cribbing them wholesale.

QftQ: I’ve been away from WoW for a few expansions and the guild I belonged to kicked most of my alts (which is alright, I would do the same). However, they forgot one of my alts. Now, the GM and any other officers have not been online in WoW for years. So:

Can I take control of this guild? If so, how do I do it?

I did some research, and according to Blizzard’s support pages, you absolutely can do this but there are restrictions. For example, your alt will need to be ranked second, third or fourth in the guild, and they will have had to have been active for at least a week before you can move to dethrone the current GM (and yes, that’s what it’s called).

According to the help guide, if your character can’t see or use the dethrone option, it could be because the GM has been logged in within the last 90 days, or because someone else is active (within the last 90 days) who is a higher rank than your character and thus is considered next in line to be GM.

Hope this helps you.

Q4TQ: how has your Diablo 4:LoH experience been?

Serious answer: After leveling my Eternal Realm Barbarian to 70 and completing LoH content, I started a new Seasonal Barbarian and played the entirety of the original campaign and am almost done with Vessel of Hatred — and I’m already level 70 and Paragon 71, with all of Lord of Hatred to go. Just cleared Torment 3 on the new character, while my Eternal Realm character is flirting with but not quite geared enough for Torment 7,

I’m going to be honest — I love the story of LoH, and I enjoyed taking a character through the entire game and the other campaigns to see what it would feel like to play to Skovos on an entirely new character. I’m also really annoyed with Eru, who is even told by a glowing lion and his leader and friend Ormus that he’s being a jerk and he still goes on to be a jerk.

Less serious — Lilith and I are having some trouble in our relationship — for example, her dad is a complete and utter nightmare and she’s still holding on to some behaviors he taught her. But I believe we’ll get through this.

That’s the Queue for this week. See y’all next week, if I can wrestle myself away from Sanctuary (still the worst name for a place I can imagine) long enough.
