Epic Games Store is giving away Sunderfolk and Telltale Batman: Shadows Edition for free this week
The Epic Games Store is giving away two innovative, unique titles this week — but sometimes, those words can be used as euphemisms.
- Sunderfolk
- Release Date: April 23, 2025
- Game Type: turn-based RPG
- POV: 3rd person, top-down
- Party: co-op
- DLC: None.
Sunderfolk was the first game by Secret Door, published by Dreamhaven, both studios being heavily peopled with former Blizzard employees. As such, we were quite interested in Sunderfolk from the start. And then, at the eleventh hour, they revealed that not only is the game local co-op only — no single player, no online co-op — but that you all play your separate characters using your phones as controllers. While this is quite innovative and creative, and is a very cool thing for people who want to engage in couch co-op but don’t want to purchase a billion controllers, it also really restricts your playerbase. I was very curious how this would play out in practice, and now I have a chance to get my hands on it.
- The Telltale Batman: Shadows Edition
- Release Date: December 17, 2019
- Game Type: Action Adventure
- POV: 3rd person
- Party: Single Player
- DLC: None.
Telltale has a very specific comics-like visual style that lends itself very well to the Batman series, so it’s no surprise that this version of the iconic character is so, well, iconic. Telltale tends to have incredible storytelling. The gameplay tends to be okay, but their stories and that visual language are so good, it leaves everything else in the dust. Definitely pick this one up while it’s here.
