Heroic World Tier is coming in patch 12.0.7 — but not to the entirety of WoW
If you played WoW during early 2026’s Legion Remix, you may remember that one of the many features of that particular remix was Heroic World Tier. Presented in that Remix as a simple toggle that you could turn on or off, Heroic World Tier made enemies more challenging — both numerically tougher in terms of health and damage, as well as adding Mythic dungeon-style affixes to enemies, causing them to summon swarms of imps or explode when they die. In return, the rewards for doing open-world activities like World Quests and hunting rare enemies would increase, yielding more experience and currency.
The feature wasn’t without its problems — it would make retrieving your artifact weapons nearly impossible if you turned it on too early, for example, and it wasn’t exactly well-suited for healer specs — but in general it was a well-received feature of Legion Remix, and there was a lot of speculation at the time whether we’d see something like it in Midnight. Well, wonder no more — Heroic World Tier has turned up on the patch 12.0.7 PTR. But it’s not quite the Heroic World Tier that Remix players will remember; for one thing, it doesn’t encompass the whole world, just a pair of small, brand-new portions of it… for now, anyway.
One of the new features coming in patch 12.0.7 are Void Showdowns. Reminiscent of a feature from the last patch of Legion, in Void Showdowns we’re going on the offensive against the forces of the Void. Adventurers will find themselves following the Void forces through a portal to a world they control and fighting them off there — either on the fungus-forest world of Naigtal or the frozen, formerly-Legion-controlled wasteland of Val. On Naigtal and Val, you’ll find new enemies, new World Quests, and eventually, after causing enough damage to the Void, you’ll call out the zone’s leader as a World Boss. Once you defeat either Nexus-Captain Lethir or Imperator Pertinax, you’ll get the achievement Heroic Tendencies. Your reward? Heroic World Tier for Naigtal and Val.
Details on what exactly you’ll find are a little sparse. Blizzard’s development notes for the PTR mention “added difficulty and dangers.” The obvious thing we can expect is more dangerous enemies. We don’t know if Naigtal and Val will be available for leveling characters — if so, there’s a possibility they’ll earn more experience on the Heroic World Tier versions. You’ll also likely get better rewards from World Quests and rare enemies, as that was a staple of Legion‘s Heroic World Tier as well. It’ll be especially interesting to see if this carries on all the way up to fighting the World Bosses this time — it could make Lethir and Pertinax particularly sought-after, as long as you can survive whatever new dangers they have to throw at you.
