The Queue: The one where we (almost) don’t talk about games at all

It’s a gaming-light Queue day, so we will talk about whatever we wish for the time, and maybe find a game (or something equally interesting) along the way.

This is the Queue, our daily Q&A column where we answer your questions, whatever they may be, as best we can. Let’s get to it.

XERIANNE ASKED:

Q4tQ: With May coming to a close do you have any fun summer plans you’re looking forward to?
After School is out for the kids we’re going on a road trip back to CA to hang out with family and friends.
Then hubby and I get to take the in-laws to Italy though we are their caretakers so more work for us to navigate everything in wheelchairs. Still exciting though especially for them as they’ve never been anywhere except Norway 40 years ago.

My vacation was earlier this month when I drove to New York for a guild meetup. Frankly, it was exhausting and I am still recovering. This is always the problem with vacations; when you get home you need a second vacation to rest up, and you rarely have time for one since you want to devote most of your time to the original vacation.

I might head to California for BlizzCon later this year, but I haven’t decided, and that is at the very best a workcation.

ARTHONOS ASKED:

Q4tQ: how superstition are you?

Superstitious enough not to comment on my superstitions, lest they come true.

MUSEDMOOSE ASKED:

Late Q4tQ: do you think the D4 third anniversary events need to last longer? I think they do.

Okay, maybe one gaming question, as a treat.

Diablo 4 events are always exceptionally short; it is very rare that an event other than a battle pass last longer than a week. This short timeframe can make it quite difficult to participate in events, which can be frustrating. The anniversary starts on June 2 and apparently runs for a week, with an XP boost, a Treasure Goblin event with a reward track to work through, as well as free transmog appearances to claim in the shop.

It’s not a very big event, really, recycling and combining two previous events (Mother’s Blessing and March of the Goblins) and adding some free rewards. Perhaps the simplicity of the event means that a short timeframe makes sense, but still, it seems like such a small thing for Diablo 4’s third anniversary and the Diablo franchise’s 30th anniversary.

It seems like the event could at least be two weeks, and even that would be fairly light for such an anniversary celebration.

CORY ASKED:

Q4tQ: what’s the last thing someone recommended to you as a “trust me, you’ll totally love this” and then you shouldn’t have trusted them because you did not love it

Somebody named Cory strongly recommended The Expanse to me, and I have to say that the first season felt pretty rough, being largely about a dirty cop obsessed with solving the death young woman who was fridged offscreen before the show started, while he was simultaneously unrepentant and mad at everyone else for the fact that he was a dirty cop. Perhaps the whole thing would have landed differently if I had watched it in 2015 rather than 2025.

I have similarly been told by someone named Cory that it improves and this character is not the long term focus. (Sorry, I have not been invested enough to remember anyone’s name.) I can see how the larger ensemble cast could become more interesting, particularly Shohreh Aghdashloo, who is to this point the most interesting person in the show.

I may yet pick it up again, but it has not made it up to the top of my list of the very many things I would like to read and/or watch.

LIZ ASKED:
Q4tQ: if you HAD to pick from one of these options, who would you get tattooed on you and why: Zagara from SC2/HotS, Mephisto, N’Zoth, or Junkrat?

All of these are terrible ideas, but Mephisto is the worst of the lot. No one wants that guy anywhere near their skin. It’s just a bad idea to tempt fate.

LEFTY ASKED:

QftQ:
I know you can be underwhelmed and you can be overwhelmed, but can you ever just be whelmed?

Sometimes you are just whelmed, and that’s enough.

That’s all for today, my friends. Take care of yourselves and I wish you the very best of loot luck in your game of choice. I’ll see you in the comments.
