The Queue: LGBTQueueIA+
It’s Pride Month, which has increasingly been co-opted by companies trotting out the same ol graphic year after year to celebrate. As tiresome and disingenuous as that may be, it does make me a little hopeful, in that if it weren’t profitable for them to puke rainbows, they wouldn’t do it. And conversely, for some, the message of being unrepentantly visible about supporting Pride will outweigh any consequence.
When I say that you matter, that you deserve the right to not only exist but thrive, and I’m happy you’re here, I truly mean that.
This is The Queue, our daily column where you ask us the questions, and we don’t really have any answers but we’re still showing up anyway.
First time in a very long time I only spent 200 tendies and have no real wants waiting for me to do the monthly quests. I honestly thought I’d like it more but at least I can save up this month since 200 is all I had left over from last month.
Yeah, other than the flower crown it’s pretty meh for me, but the past few months have been excellent, so I’m glad to save the Tendies.
Some time back, I got a 2nd desk for my home. At the time, I could get away with a day or two each week working from home. The desk I got isn’t a great one, but it worked okay for now-and-then use.
Now that I’m moslty-remote with the new job, I kinda want/need a better desk. I just ordered one and am instantly feeling that guilty feeling from spending a bunch of $.
Over time I’ve developed the mentality of “buy once, cry once.” I research the heck out of almost every purchasing decision I make to find the “right” one, and then make a plan and buy it. I know I’m getting the thing that I need, and particularly with something like a desk, that’s almost a necessity. Sure, it’s expensive, but it’s less expensive than, say, carpal tunnel if your mouse is at the wrong height, or neck or back problems if you keep hunching or overcompensating to meet it.
I’ve also become a proponent of general happiness. I will never own a silver car again. Every time I have to drive my minivan, I walk up to several other of the same car in the parking lot before I find mine. I dropped it off for a tune up yesterday and in a lot with 20 cars, there were already 3 silver minivans, and one more pulled in as we were leaving. Not feeling that aggravation every time I drive that car would be well worth just paying to get my car wrapped purple or something. It would definitely be the same thing with your desk.
Or maybe this is me justifying spending like $100 on a mouse when mine starting giving out last week.
QftQ: What’s your desktop background?
Way back in the day we had Noxychu do a few desktops for Blizzard Watch. Or maybe it was just one — I subscribed to her personal background, so I have a few from that, too. Anyway, she drew Mercy, but all the yellow accents are blue, and it says “Blizzard Watch” in a neat font down the side. I haven’t changed it since, because I’m not sure exactly where it is on my PC so I’m petrified I’ll never find it again.
Q4TQ: What was the last concert you saw? Did it live up to your hype? Did you buy merch? I bought an Alestorm tour shirt… it was the same cost as the ticket. But it has a Canadian Flag!
Lake Street Dive! It was incredible, lots of really well-done, phenomenal harmonies. The musicality was incredible, and the space helped a lot. The one thing I wasn’t the biggest fan of, as both An Old and a Quite Short is that the entire venue was standing room only. So I guess I technically didn’t really see them live. To bring it full circle, they brought out their opener, The Lone Bellow, and they covered Lola by the Kinks together. Fun night, fun time.
