Earn some very easy and cool World Cup-inspired transmog and Player Housing decor
While sports fans of Earth are cheering on their home nations in the ongoing World Cup (go sportsball!), players of World of Warcraft have a chance to practice some footie and earn some unique cosmetic rewards.
This is one of those fun little under-the-radar tidbits that few of us knew about until Midnight’s patch 12.0.7 went live on Tuesday. When the servers came back up, Richmond the Blood Elf appeared at the Thalassian University chess pitch. He sells the a Horde Tabard of Participation or Alliance Tabard of Participation.
You’ll only be able to buy the faction-appropriate tabard, so be sure to come back later with an alt from the other “team” to pick up the other one. You can also purchase a Kickable Practice Ball and place it on the center of the grassy field, but make sure you change into your new Tabard of Participation first. Warpweaver Ay’efsee is standing by to help you with your trasmogrification needs. The Ay’efsee/Richmond duo will hopefully spark joy in fans of Ted Lasso.
After placing the ball on the pitch, you can click it to give it a boot. Guiding the ball into one of the goals on either side of the field shouldn’t give you too much trouble, but don’t feel bad if you’re like me and you need a few extra strikes to fish the ball out from behind the goal. You’ll know when you’ve succeeded when celebratory fireworks go off.
You’ll need to score three such goals, and my only complaint is that there is an inexplicable one-minute cooldown on the Kickable Practice Ball. Hopefully that gets hotfixed away to streamline this process. In any case, after completing your hat trick you’ll be awarded the achievement Goal! and automatically add three Player Housing decor items to your catalog.
The Framed Horde Pride and Framed Alliance Pride deliver what they promise: a folded-up tabard in a commemorative display case. I’m more excited about the Prized Orb of Azeroth, which is a very cool blue-and-yellow trophy that would make a great centerpiece for any sports fan’s rumpus room.
You can purchase extra copies of any of these three decor options from Richmond for 5,000 gold after unlocking them. There’s no word on whether this will be a limited-time opportunity, but Earth’s World Cup only lasts until mid-July so don’t wait too long to dedicate just a few minutes towards earning these rewards.
