The Queue: Suchomimus is going to be fine

Here are some things to keep in mind about whether or not we have to start having memorials to Suchomimus, the Spinosaurid that has recently been in the Dinosaur loving news because a recent paper indicated that Cristatusaurus and Suchomimus may in fact have been the same animal. Why does that matter? Because if they are, then Suchomimus — the animal with more complete fossils — would become Cristatusaurus because it was named first and in taxonomy the first described specimen has naming priority.

The thing is, this isn’t determined yet, and since Cristatusaurus is known from extremely limited remains, it may not be determined for some time to come. Furthermore, complicating all this is a dinosaur named Baryonyx. Our boy Baryonyx is often considered to be the same animal as Cristatusaurus or at the least difficult to distinguish fron the few pieces of Cristatusaurus we have vs. the relatively well preserved Baryonyx fossils.

Also, while Cristatusaurus was described two months before Suchomimus, Baryonyx was described in 1986. So if Cristatusaurus ends up being considered the same species as Suchomimus it is extremely likely that Cristatusaurus will end up as a junior synonym of Baryonyx. And you have to admit, if we have to lose Suchomimus as a valid genera, Baryonyx is a lot cooler than Cristatusaurus.

I’m going to say yes just because I’d like it if all my friends got more rewards from Decor Duel.

There are five Scorpion King movies in the franchise and apparently a reboot is in the works. The Rock is only in the first one.

I do not understand how I can possibly consider myself to be a sane person in a sane universe where multiple people have played the Scorpion King.

Seriously, four sequels to The Scorpion King? How? Why?

This is like the time I found out there actually was a Scorpion King, and in fact, there were two Scorpion Kings, and neither was from Akkadia. However, there’s evidence that they were making a lot of wine in Egypt at the time of Scorpion 1, so that’s neat.
