Echo Generation and Luto are free this week in the Epic Games Store
Every week the Epic Games Store gives away a game or two for free. This week, we get one cozy horror RPG and one emphatically not cozy horror narrative game for free.
- Echo Generation
- Release Date: October 21, 2021
- Game Type: Turn-based RPG
- POV: 3rd person
- Party: Single Player
- DLC: None
Echo Generation is a turn-based RPG in the mold of Stranger Things. A group of 90s kids wanders around their sleepy 90s town (unsupervised, as apropos to the setting) defeating monsters which definitely should not be in their sleepy 90s town. Working together, they unravel the mystery of these monsters, turn by turn. It’s a little bit Stranger Things and a little bit Scooby Doo. Good, clean, slightly spooky fun.
- Luto
- Rated M for Mature
- Release Date: July 21, 2025
- Game Type: Horror, Walking Sim, Narrative
- POV: 1st person
- Party: Single Player
- DLC: You can purchase the soundtrack
You are trapped in your house and cannot leave. If you want to try, well, you can try.
Like many titles in both the horror and walking sim narrative-driven genres, Luto is an exploration of death and grief. Unlike narrative games with similar gameplay and exploration like Edith Finch, it’s red meat for horror fans, with an M rating that is well-earned. If you’re just into the narrative exploration and not the horror, this will not land for you. If you’re only into gory horror games, but don’t enjoy horror or slasher movies, Luto likely won’t be your cup of tea, either. But for the sickos who are into both, Luto is a great game to explore.
