Foretales is this week’s free game of the week from the Epic Games Store
Every week the Epic Games Store gives away a game or two for free. This week, we get a very cute, cozy narrative fantasy card game for free.
- Foretales
- Release Date: September 15, 2022
- Game Type: Cards, Turn-based RPG
- POV: 3rd person
- Party: Single Player
- DLC: The soundtrack and art book are both for sale.
At first glance Foretales seems like you threw a fistful of darts at a game tropes dartboard. Cards, narrative, hand-animated, fantasy, cozy, wholesome, turn-based? Sure. The title is also like, five puns in one, which we love. But at its core, Foretales is a very thoughtful take on a relatively saturated set of genres. The hand drawn art is a huge part of why I’m drawn to it. It’s stylistically reminiscent of the golden age of Disney animation, with the Robin Hood and Jungle Book inspiration closely tied to anything with anthropomorphic animals. The gameplay seems like a fun time, if you like card games and are okay with a slight bit of randomness ruining your game on occasion — as any poker player will tell you.
Plus, anything narrated by Travis Willingham has that going for it, at least. Plus, it’s free, so as always, you may as well pick this game up.
