The Queue: Getting ready to say goodbye to Season 1
The end of a season in World of Warcraft always heralds the beginning of a new season, full of excitement and adventure. Or in this case, snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?
But I have kind of gotten tired of Season 1 content… even though I haven’t entirely finished everything… so off to the Coiled Isle we go.
This is the Queue, our daily Q&A column where I attempt to answer your questions. Let’s get to it.
Q4TQ: With the patch announced and the end of season one near, are you happy with whatever progression goals you had and what you achieved?
I got AotC, and am content. I tend to tire pretty quickly of the grind, and there are lots of other things I might have accomplished, but I’m not motivated enough to keep on them, like Season 1 Pray and Delve achievements.
I do wish I’d dedicated some more time to Decor Duels to pick up the cosmetics, but there’s still a little time left. And I need to do some more Void Assaults and/or Ritual Sites to finish collecting the purple transmog variants, but that one’s at least not going away. I’ve got a few weeks to decide if I really am motivated to do them or not.
Q4tQ How closely do you track your Turbulent Timeways buff? Is there a certain time remaining when you make sure to queue up for another dungeon to extend it?
Very little, but I’ve also reserved a specific character to get the buff for the achievement, and the rest of my characters may or may not bother to keep up with Timewalking. So I get the buff for the week and log off again, and just make sure I’m there every week to pick it up again. Reserving a character I don’t play for the buff just makes it really simple, and I don’t have to do much to keep track.
Q4tQ – What’s your go to comfort game when you’re overwhelemed and just need to dip out for a few minutes/hours
Mass Effect, for sure, even though it’s not much of a drop in/drop out sort of game. But the intro to Mass Effect 2 is particularly stellar, and I keep a save file at the beginning of Mass Effect 3: Citadel. When I can’t work up the energy or enthusiasm for anything else, and the world around me is a garbage fire, that at least always grabs me.
Q4tQ: What’s your earliest Warcraft memory? This question stolen from Eric’s discussion topic.
I remember flying across Dun Morogh as a tiny adorable Gnome, and being awed by the scale of the world. I don’t remember a lot of specifics from the olden days, but I have a very clear memory of the first flight out of Ironforge.
Q4TQ: you ever find stuff you made/wrote/produced/whatever decades ago (I mean like 20 years ago at least), and spend some time reminiscing about it? Does it make you wistful, pensive, nostalgic, or just amused?
I found some files in my computer from 2000 (!) and it was like uncovering a time capsule. It was especially funny because I’m still working on that same project, in a sense — or at least, on its spiritual successor. It’s 95% changed, but some core ideas and key concepts still survived, which was really interesting to notice.
I just know that I am not going to look up my early WoW Insider posts.
Q4tQ What’s the current quick/easy way to get 1k HKs to unlock Legion artifact appearances?
I don’t do much in the way of PVP, but I would assume the new Training Grounds are the way to go. These pit you against bots, like Comp Stomp used to. It’s available in Battlegrounds right now and will be in Arenas in patch 12.1, but I’d bet Battlegrounds are the way to go here.
But I don’t have that artifact appearance, either.
That’s all for today folks. Take care of yourselves and I’ll see you in the comments section.
