The Queue: The waiting!
The waiting on patch day is the hardest part. It’s like being 8 and it’s Christmas morning, but also like you’re a responsible adult who has columns to write, or whatever. But man am I distracted today.
This is The Queue, our daily column where you ask us questions and I don’t have anything better to do today than answer them I guess.
Decor Duel queues are super fast, if anyone is trying to farm up the cosmetics. Once you get the hang of it it’s pretty fun.
They are! And it is! Because everyone queues into the same pool, the queue times are extremely short, even if you’re new or bad or a Hunter. And even if you’re new or bad or a Hunter, I do find it fun, though I think it’s better if I just play a round or two and then go do something else. More than that, it gets a little samey and boring.
I sincerely hope it comes back around on rotation the same way as Trial of Style. I’m not holding my breath, though.
Q4tQ do you plan on picking anything up from the Steam Cyberpunk Sale this week?
Nah. Cyberpunk isn’t really my favorite genre, though there is some degree of bleedover to futuristic/post-apocalyptic survival, which is. I also spent a decent amount on the Steam Summer Sale, so I’m kinda trying to let it ride til the Fall Sale or whatever it’ll be called.
I have so many games at home I need to play already.
Q4tQ: if big brother is going to be tracking everything about us, shouldn’t games give you a competitive advantage when you are sick?
I have long thought that this should be a consideration in terms of recommendation algorithm, tied to a few different factors.
If it is a school night — because they know I have kids and they know what time school starts — at 9 pm or so, I should immediately be set in games with people several MMR levels higher than me so I’m discouraged and go to bed.
If I am on my period — because they know what I purchase and when — I should not be recommended anything where a dog or a kid dies. Illegal. Bonus points for games where I get to beat zombies to death with a tire iron.
If it is the weekend — if they don’t know what day of the week it is what are we even doing here — it should be wall-to-wall deep dive thinky games or RPGs or imsims. No little puzzle games or round-based nonsense I can leave immediately, or feel the passage of time through. Hyperfixation engines ONLY.
If I’m sad, they should also recognize that and give me aimless driving games.
Also, if thunderstorms are in the forecast I should get 20% off on ibuprofen.
Q4tQ when you were a young’un did you play Punch Buggy/Slug Bug?
On our summer road trip, my husband was explaining punch buggy to our kids, but deliberately said you’re supposed to punch the roof of the car instead of your sibling.
Believe it or not, they figured it out for themselves anyway. Little prodigies, I swear.
