Cardpocalypse is Epic Games Store’s free game of the week

Every week the Epic Games Store gives away a game or two for free. This week, they’re giving us a collectible card game with an entertaining framing story.

If you, like me, are not the biggest TCG girlie and are lukewarm on Cardpocalypse then you may also want to take a look at the framing story, which is what sold me on this game. While usually TCGs are just, you know, find card build deck play game, this one has a fun story with a lot of heart giving you an actual reason to pick up those cards. You play as Jess, who gets a TCG banned on her very first day at a new school! But the monsters from the card game start invading real life, making you and your friends pick up the cards to save the world.

The art style is unique and charming, and the whole thing has an over-the-top comic book feel — as evidenced by the ben day dots in the splash image. Even if you, like me, are not a TCG girlie, this is definitely one worth picking up, especially since it’s free this week on Epic.
