The Queue: Can we be done with this yet?

We’re at that point of summer where I am so thoroughly over it. I cannot stand eating another zucchini and I’m so sick of being sweaty all the time. It’s made even worse because all the pumpkin spice nonsense is rolling out because everyone north of me is starting to feel that crisp breeze in the air, but if I want to feel that anytime in the next month I need to stand over the AC grate wearing a dress (which doesn’t have pockets, because we’re adding insult to injury). Time does and will march on, but for now I’m truly over it.

This is The Queue, our daily column where you ask us the questions and we’ll give you some kind of answers as long as I can do it lying down with the lights off. Ugh.

how are yall leveling alts? feels like it’s taking a lot longer than i expected

I’ve noticed that since Midnight there’s been a bit of wonkiness in pursuing the campaigns. They’re supposed to be somewhat smoothed out by scaling but in practice I’ve found this to not be the case. My poor little lvl 50 Monk takes a lifetime to kill anything in Tank spec in Dragonflight and BfA, and if I get even one add she’s done for. At first I thought that I was missing abilities or stagger opportunities or self-healing, but no, she’s just screwed. The catch-up experience seems perfectly smoothed out though, so I’ll probably be going in that direction on the rest of my characters.

So, mostly, not. I would swap the Monk to Healing and go that route but I’m pretty confident it would end similarly.

Q4tQ: what’s the last game you beat?

Asking because I just beat the FFVI Pixel Remaster, then enjoyed the 23-minute ending. And all my characters had the ‘blinded’ status effect when they killed the final boss, so they all looked like they were wearing sunglasses. 😎

Unfortunately (fortunately?) most of the games I play don’t have a true end. It looks like the most recent one was The Incident at Galley House which I finished around a month ago. It was entertaining and a very fun brain exercise, but if I think on the overarching plot too much, the thread gets a little lost along the way. I would recommend it, but I think of the ones I’ve played recently I liked Roottrees slightly more (though I also have issues with the overarching plot).

I’ve played plenty of other games since, but most of them, including WoW and Hearthstone just don’t have a finish to them. I did intend to get the latest Spirit City expansion as it launched, but it did so yesterday and I’m so busy this week I kinda forgot about it despite actively using it while I’m writing this. Whoops!

Q4tQ: Will Xal’atath be the final boss of Midnight? Or is she going to be the second raid tier boss of the next one?

I think these are both pretty solid guesses. If she’s the final boss of Midnight she will, of course, die or escape as her master plan reaches fruition and then she’ll die as a part of the intro questing experience or in the tertiary novel between expansions. Then we have to deal with whatever nonsense it is she did to Alleria and/or Turalyon in the meantime. I expect that the final raid tier, if not the final fight of The Last Titan will be about “warring for the fate of Azeroth’s very soul — whether she will fall to Void corruption, or be reborn in the light.”

And then Arator will be all “maybe we can have both” and then everyone walks off into the sunset hand-in-hand because you can’t have a light without casting darkness; there cannot be good without evil to throw that good into relief, despite that being the most self-justified Vampire Lestat-est ass sentiment ever.

As a reminder, this doesn’t mean I’m saying it’s bad, or especially that it doesn’t serve its core purpose of being entertaining. After all, I would kill a man if Olivia Benson told me to. I’m just saying we all know that the actor we recognize did it, even if this episode is super old and they guested before they were famous.

Q4tQ: when baking, what is an acceptable ratio of chocolate chips to eat vs add to the mixing bowl?

Depends on how many chips I have vs the amount the recipe calls for. If it’s like chocolate chip cookies and the recipe wants less than half of a bag, I’ll sneak around a handful. But if I’m making something like a ganache and it calls for the full bag, I’ll sneak like, 2, 3 chips and hope it doesn’t throw things too far off.
