Q4tQ: if you are really really anticipating a new game release, but unexpectedly croak just before it gets released, does that count as unresolved business and mean you return as a ghost? Would you be limited to haunting a specific copy of the game, or would it be a ghost in the machine scenario where you cause havoc digitally inside the game?
No, I was forced to become a revenant. Luckily my bodily decay is relatively slow so people just think I got old.
Q4TQ: This is turning into a very spiritual Queue today. Have you ever had a WoW moment outside of WoW? I was walking outside a bit ago, and the strangest feeling came over me, something triggered in my brain to give me a pleasant feeling like I use to get from playing WoW.
I went to a cabin in the woods for Easter my Junior year in college with a bunch of people I have never spoken to since and while somewhat chemically altered I tried to take a bath in the nearby stream only for a very large moose to come out of the woods. It stopped to drink. I stood there staring at one of the largest animals in North America and felt extremely small until it left. Small and terrified.
I feel like this would be a common experience for everyone on Azeroth. Not specifically moose, just one of the many terrifying and enormous things that live there.
Q4TQ: what are your thoughts on 1983 new wave hit Karma Chameleon by Culture Club?
- I turned 12 that year.
- I vastly prefer Space Age Love Song by A Flock of Seagulls, You Spin Me Round (Like a Record) by Dead or Alive, and even Union of the Snake by Duran Duran.
- It’s still an ok song, just not one of my favorites.
Q4TQ: what is a “capricorn,” exactly? Like, a mermaid goat thing? Which mythology does THAT come from?? I’ve never seen mermaid goats on any RPG I’ve played
As many have probably answered by now, Capricorn derives from the Latin words Caper for goat and Cornu meaning horned. The constellation Capricorn itself has been used since 21o0 BC, and the ‘sea goat’ aspect depicted in Babylonian art is a sacred animal of Ea, with the head and forequarters of a goat and the tail of a fish.
In Greek myth, the divine figure Amalthea, usually depicted sometimes as a woman or goddess who fed the infant Zeus the milk of a goat during his upbringing hidden from his father Cronos (the one who ate his own children) is often depicted as a horned goat whose horn, the Cornucopia or Horn of Plenty, could also provide nourishment indefinitely. The Greeks, never being ones to not make up another myth just because they already had one, also said that Pan turned himself into a goat/fish similar to Ea’s divine animal form in order to escape the wrath of Typhon.
To be fair, the ancient Greeks did this a lot — many of the Egyptian gods were explained away by the Greeks as being the gods they already had hiding from Typhon in various animal forms, to the point where they actually came up with syncretic religious cults such as Zeus-Ammon.
Q4tQ: I’m thinking of trying a bleed-specced barbarian next time I play one in D4. Would this be called a bleedbarian, a barbleedian, or a barbariblood?
I would suggest Haematrox, from the ancient Greek word for blood and the Latin word Atrox, meaning fierce or terrible in battle. If you like dinosaurs, you could just go around calling yourself Lythronax.
It means Gore King. I feel like a Barbarian specializing in bleeds could do worse.
