Return to the fall of Lordaeron with new Warcraft 3 Reforged expansion Forsaken Kingdom, announced (and live!) today

During the opening ceremony of BlizzCon 2026, we were treated to an unexpected announcement for Warcraft 3: Reforged, which returns with a brand-new expansion, Forsaken Kingdom. And surprise — it’s already live!

The Forsaken Kingdom expansion lets players experience the fall of Lordaeron and the creation of the Undercity, bridging the story between Warcraft 3 and World of Warcraft. It also introduces the new Forsaken Paladin, who will appear in the upcoming World of Warcraft: Forever as well as patch 12.2 of Midnight.

Going back to Lordaeron’s destruction

The expansion begins with a prologue set during Arthas’ destruction of Lordaeron before following the Forsaken as they claim that fallen kingdom as their own. The campaign explores the founding of the Undercity, the rise of the Scarlet Crusade, and the lingering threat of the Scourge as the Forsaken fight to defend their newly acquired homeland.

Along the way, players will encounter a new hero unit: the Forsaken Paladin. Once members of the Silver Hand, these knights fell defending their most sacred lands, only to rise again in undeath — yet they remain bound to the oaths they swore in life. These righteous Undead will join your forces throughout Forsaken Kingdom before making the leap into World of Warcraft.

Warcraft 3: Reforged is getting a graphics facelift (if you want)

Warcraft 3: Reforged is receiving a major graphical overhaul with the Definitive Edition, introducing the option to play with newly rendered 3D graphics and improved lighting and shadows. Heroes are getting updated appearances as well, with Sylvanas receiving a new model designed to match her modern appearance in World of Warcraft.

Prefer the classic look? The new graphics can be toggled off, allowing you to experience the campaign with a more traditional Warcraft 3 presentation.

These upgrades extend beyond the campaign and into the World Editor, where creators will gain access to the new models, environments, and other assets. Whether you want to revisit classic custom maps or build an entirely new adventure, the expanded toolset gives players even more ways to create their own corner of Azeroth.

And it releases… now. Right now. Today.

In the tradition of Microsoft’s favorite kind of announcement, Forsaken Kingdom was both announced today, September 12, and its release date is today.

The expansion is available as a standalone purchase or bundled with Warcraft 3: Reforged if you don’t have the base game yet. For a limited time, players can also pick up the Forever Bundle, which includes Warcraft 3: Reforged, Forsaken Kingdom, and the Skyborne Epic Pack for the upcoming World of Warcraft: Forever.

And for those of us who enjoy filling our homes with little pieces of Azeroth, each edition also includes collectible Forsaken and Scarlet Crusade figurines for World of Warcraft Player Housing. Apparently defending Lordaeron wasn’t enough — we need to keep a tiny reminder in our player homes as well.
