The Epic Games Store is giving away Bad Cheese and Agent A: a puzzle in disguise for free this week

Every week the Epic Games Store gives away a game or two for free. This week, they’re giving us two games with retro art styles and literally nothing else in common.

Agent A is a very typical, but fun, escape room style puzzle game. You play as a secret agent like James Bond, complete with a Sean Connery-era retro art style. You have to find your way to the lair of your nemesis, and thwart her cunning and evil plan by solving several different puzzles in sequence. The puzzles look both somewhat typical, but involve objectives like defusing bombs and other spy-related narrative reasonings for the puzzles. If you enjoyed The Room series or Escape Academy this will likely be right up your alley.

  • Bad Cheese
    • Release Date: January 9, 2026
    • Game Type: walking sim, narrative adventure
    • POV: First person
    • Party: Single Player
    • DLC: None

Bad Cheese has an art style that lies between a Cuphead-style 20s and 30s animation idea, but also with the parts of Ren and Stimpy that were uncomfortably realistic. I am unfamiliar with this game, but the warnings on it for topics like abuse and alcoholism give me pause. It seems to be a relatively short experience in the “walking sim” narrative-heavy space, so it’s quite likely that those themes are the core of this experience. The art style rooted in both nostalgia and the ability to render things in a hyperbolic, unreal way will likely amplify those themes. I’m not sure this will be something I will truly dig into and enjoy. But, as usual, this is a free game, so I’m picking it up. I plan on shoving it squarely to the bottom of my ever-growing backlog of freebies and Steam sale items, though.
