The Epic Games Store is giving away Home and Sker Ritual for free this week
Every week the Epic Games Store gives away a game or two for free. This week, we’re rounding the corner on Halloween with two horror titles, with very different art direction and playstyles.
- Sker Ritual
- Release Date: April 18, 2024
- Game Type: FPS, zombies, horror
- POV: 1st person
- Party: Single Player, co-op
- DLC: There are several cosmetic DLC packs for sale.
If you’re looking for a classic FPS horror experience, Sker Ritual is a great pickup. It follows on the story of its predecessor Mother of Sker but like most shooters where you mow down waves of zombies with wanton violence, the story itself is kind of incidental. Collect and upgrade weapons ranging from swords to machine guns while also unlocking different magic abilities. The games may change, but the desire to beat a zombie to death to unwind is universal. You can play solo or with up to 4 players in co-op.
- Home – A Unique Horror Adventure
- Release Date: June 1, 2012
- Game Type: choices matter, horror
- POV: 3rd person, sidescroller
- Party: Single Player
- DLC: None
Home is a much older title, and the gameplay is somewhat similar to a visual novel. You’re tasked with solving a murder mystery. You are presented with many choices along the branching narrative path toward solving that mystery, and what you choose will shape how the story happens. The developers just launched an update for the game’s 14th anniversary which includes developer commentary and behind-the-scenes footage, which will be an interesting hook on a second (or third) playthrough. And really, what’s more celebratory than giving your game away for free? Thanks, guys.
