Try out the Talebound Demo on the WoW Midnight 12.1.7 PTR between October 30 and November 1
A demo version of Talebound, World of Warcraft‘s forthcoming standalone game mode, will be available to play on the Midnight patch 12.1.7 PTR beginning October 30, 2026 through November 1, 2026. First teased at BlizzCon 2026 as part of the patch 12.1.7 content update, Talebound is an action-RPG roguelike game mode where players choose one of three classes, each with their own different talents and skills, to play through four different scenarios, or tales, by themselves or with friends. No subscription is required to play the demo, so anyone interested can try it out!

What is in the Talebound demo?
All three Talebound classes, the Slayer, Inquisitor, and the Witch are available in the demo and after choosing a class, players will go through the Red Hollow introduction. Red Hollow was first mentioned during the Talebound announcement and now that we know it’ll be an introduction, it’ll likely serve as the segue into Talebound’s central hub of Quillgrave. We don’t know if Red Hollow will be the only introduction scenario for Talebound at launch but that’s something to keep an eye on.
After completing the introduction, three tales will be available: Darkhaven, Greenthistle Wood, and Greywake’s Expedition. For now, players will have to wait until launch to experience the fourth tale, Grove of the Night Court. Each tale has different enemies, mechanics, and puzzles to figure out and you can up the ante by choosing the difficulty of your tale between Normal, Veteran, and Heroic modes.

Talebound does have a progression and semi-build crafting system available that you can experiment with thanks to a handful of Quillgrave residents: the Arcanist, Scribe, Outfitter, and Antiquarian. These NPCs either grant you different buffs through consumable items and passive effects or alter/improve your classes talents and abilities. Even though they’re not specifically mentioned by name in the announcement, it would make sense for them to be present in the demo.
As far as rewards are concerned, it remains to be seen how drops will go during the demo. Talebound will drop different cosmetics, housing decor, and mounts when it’s live during patch 12.1.7 and some of those items will probably be present in the PTR. It would also make sense that character and class progression won’t carry over to the launch build of Talebound and everything will reset once the weekend ends, so players should prepare for the possibility that they can’t keep or take anything with them after the demo ends — characters, classes, skills, housing items, anything.
