Flotsam is free this week on the Epic Games Store

Every week the Epic Games Store gives away a game or two for free. This week, they’re giving us a cute seafaring city builder for free. There’s also an Idle Champions freebie pack.

Flotsam is a very cute city builder that bridges the gap between a traditional city builder, and a game like Raft, where you use your ships themselves to scrape resources from the sea to build your colony. It was in early access since 2019 and released in full around a year ago. As such, it has a ton of very diehard fans already. It is geared somewhat toward a more cozy, perhaps childlike aesthetic so the gameplay isn’t overly punishing, and it has a bit of a Captain Planet-style ecological message that also ties in to gameplay. You are very much rewarded for saving plants and animals from pollution, and need to work to keep your residents safe from it as well. Though, in terms of cozy, that can kind of push the boundary because it’s sort of depressing, too.

This cute game is well worth a shot, and since it’s free, you may as well let the Epic Games Store foot the bill.
