Join Team Yogg in this week’s Hearthstone Tavern Brawl

This week’s Hearthstone Tavern Brawl is ‘Servant of Yogg-Saron’ Tryouts. In this brawl, every minion you play casts a random spell upon hitting the game board. Decks are composed entirely of randomly-selected minions, so you simply need to choose a hero and you can jump right into the chaos.

Initially, I assumed Mage was the obvious choice, given random decks — we’re dealing with random spells every minion, so Mage shenanigans seemed best to enhance my Spell Power. While the minions in each deck are largely random, the system does lean toward choosing class-based rather than neutral, though you will get some neutral minions. Unfortunately, I didn’t actually have much luck here. While Mage minions might provide a Spell Power boost, they themselves weren’t burly enough to deal with a board when I couldn’t choose my spells on my own. Not having the ability to time my Fireballs or Flamestrikes on my own seriously reduced the value of Spell Power.

Again, randomness is a factor here, but I had much more luck with Paladin. Even when I couldn’t choose which spells occurred when, getting cards such as Aldor Peacekeeper, Keeper of Uldaman, and Eadric the Pure provided me some on-demand tools for manipulating the game board.

The amount of control you have in this brawl is seriously limited, but the Hearthstone subreddit has some solid tips to give you a leg up.
