New Nixxiom machinima, Call of the Warrior

Most people know Nixxiom from his comedic machinima pieces, but every now and again he’ll throw in a serious piece just to keep us all on our toes. And although he’s got a wacky sense of humor, it’s these serious pieces I really appreciate the most, because he’s got a really deft, elegant hand for storytelling that absolutely shines in these moments. Call of the Warrior is based on the short story An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge by Ambrose Bierce. If you’re familiar with the story, you know full well what to expect here. If you haven’t, just be aware that this is not a comedic tale, not in the slightest, and there might be a little disturbing visual imagery here, as is the case when you’re dealing with tales of war.

The new models absolutely shine in this piece, as well as the music choices. Nixxiom uses a couple of selections from the Warlords of Draenor soundtrack, piecing them together for the best effect. The visuals might seem simple, but for the purpose of the story, simplicity turned into one of the most hauntingly beautiful machinima pieces I’ve seen in years. You don’t necessarily need the flashiest effects to get the point across — sometimes understatement makes the biggest statement of all. Take a look at the video below, and if you like what you see, be sure to check out Nixxiom’s Youtube channel for his other works.
