How Hearthstone cards are made
Shacknews has some neat insight on how Hearthstone cards are created and designed by developers Ben Brode and Mike Donais. For example, Blackwing Technician is one of the new cards added into the game courtesy of the Blackrock Mountain adventure. Even though the Technician starts as a 2/4 for 3 mana, holding a dragon grants it a +1/+1 boost. However, it didn’t actually start out this way. In fact, there were ten versions before the team ultimately settled on the one that’s out there live.
You can see one of the older versions of the Technician pictured above. It was a druid card which provided armor equal to the mana cost of a random dragon in your hand. It didn’t quite fit the druid theme, unfortunately. A technician and a druid? Other iterations involved restoring health to your dragons, giving a random friendly dragon +2 attack, or reducing the mana cost of a Dragon in hand by 1.
