Breakfast Topic: Go fly a glider
I prefer traveling by ground over flying. Oh sure, when it’s raid time and I’m not at the raid entrance yet, I’ll be flying if possible to get there as fast as I can, but if I’m relaxed and exploring? Nah, gimme a ground mount any day.
I like how traveling by ground creates fun terrain puzzles that traveling by air does not. It’s not that the z axis doesn’t matter with no flying — in fact, it completely matters with no flying. The idea that you can hop around on a pillar staircase immediately becomes an advantage when you’re stuck to the ground.
I remember when leveling, a friend showed me the Nagrand glider puzzles. He’d gone and looked them all up, of course, and was systemically figuring each one out — even smartly using raid world markers as “landing strips,” ha! — so he could get whatever purple-glowing treasure he’d spotted. I, on the other hand, had seen the other part in beta. When wandering aimlessly around the cliffs behind the Throne of the Elements, I’d found these curious flags, leading around and around to a goblin with a machine box.
So I stopped questing, just so I could go find all these goblin gliders. I told my friend, “Hey, don’t tell me the solution! I want to find it on my own!” Sometimes we’d brainstorm together how to float down to a treasure. Another guildmate came by and we walked her up the cliffs to find a glider. I continue to be excited for Nagrand on alts, not just because I know that the leveling grind is almost over, but because, hey! I get to do the goblin gliders again!
Can these exist with flying? Sure. I hope if flying makes it back into the game, the world designers keep designing fun things for the ground-lovers to do. What about you? Did you find the goblin glider puzzles fun? Or have you yet to do them?
