Heroes of the Storm stats from GosuGamers show regional preferences

GosuGamers is a site that tracks tournament statistics around the world for competitive esports, like League of Legends and Hearthstone. It’s only natural that they’re also shedding light on the Heroes of the Storm competitive scene, especially as the Road To BlizzCon tournaments begin to lead toward Anaheim. In addition to more expected information like team rankings and upcoming streams, gosugamers.net plays host to general hero statistics — things like bans, picks, and overall win percentage in tournament play. They also just released a blog post analyzing the current statistics from each region, making for some interesting revelations.

Overall, the meta in Europe and North America looks relatively similar to each other, but there are a few curve balls when comparing those two against the Asian regions. As noted in the piece, one of the more staggering bits of information, as someone who watches mostly English-cast NA and EU region tournaments, is that apparently the combined regions of China and Korea like to choose Arthas. A lot. The Lich King does see some play in EU and NA, but he’s usually not called out as anything special. Gosu Gamers note in their analysis that certain team-based choices will lead to a bit of a shift in the look of the meta. They cite the disappearance of the otherwise very strong Valla from the NA top 10 due to contributing factors from currently favored team compositions.

The one downside to this information is that, due to the relatively small sample size, certain statistics will necessarily be skewed. The Highest Win Rate stat seen on the combined stats page in particular elucidates this, as Sgt Hammer sits atop that chart after seeing action in a total of three competitive matches. However, some statistics, like the staggering rate at which Zeratul is banned across all regions, can show a trend in the game’s balance as a whole. Regardless, these rankings provide a neat look behind the scenes at Heroes play at the competitive level.
