The Queue: Leveling binges, fandom, and undeath
Welcome back to The Queue, our daily Q&A feature for all of Blizzard’s games! Have a question for the Blizzard Watch staff? Leave it in the comments!
I took my hunter from 47 to 91 this weekend. (It was a 3 day weekend for me.) 44 levels. That’s the most leveling I’ve done in that amount of time. How about you guys? Whats the most levels gained in a burst of playing?
On a brand new alt, I can typically blow through 1-60 in one long binge gaming session. Once I hit Outland and Northrend, I slow way down. I don’t think it’s because I dislike that content — I do quite like it, even with Outland being a buggy mess after existing untouched for so long, but that’s around the point where the binge takes its toll. At that point, I’ve burned myself on playing the character, and the crawl to 100 takes many, many moons.
What is your favourite fandom and if a Blizzard game, which is number two? Nerds will be nerds, but most nerds have multiple groups of nerds to nerd around with about nerdy things. My number two would be hard to define. Sims or various book franchises probably? (ASoIaF most prominent among them) Which is yours, and why do most nerds have several instead of sticking to a few?
I can’t speak for anyone other than myself, but I’m a fairweather fan. When something new comes out that I really enjoy, I’ll spend maybe a week totally steeped in that fandom. I do it with BioWare games, I just did it with Metal Gear Solid V, I do it with everything — if I like it, I’m totally immersed. After that week, I stop checking the fansites, subreddits, blogs, tumblrs, whatever. The grip loosens and I disappear from it until the next new thing. Blizzard games, being a more persistent thing, is where I inevitably return.
So, what is the miniature fortress in a bubble that A’dal is floating over in Shattrath in Outland?
It’s a battle map of Sunwell Plateau/Isle of Quel’Danas. Back during that event in Burning Crusade, the map reflected progress on the island. Many of the NPCs that are in Shattrath now weren’t there at the beginning of that expansion. Most everyone in the center of Shattrath was Aldor or Scryer. Everyone labeled Shattered Sun Offensive came in during the Sunwell patch along with that battle map.
Now that the Val’kyr are raising the dead enemies of the Forsaken, are the newly undead given a choice about whether they serve the Banshee Queen? Are those who refuse to declare fealty to Sylvanas returned to the grave, or do they become mindless servants?
It’s been awhile since I played the Forsaken starting zone, but if I remember correctly, Sylvanas forcibly resurrects people, and if they don’t submit to her well, she murders them all over again. You get to die twice, hooray! The business with Lilian Voss came about because (again, relying on memory), she refused to submit to the Forsaken but also escaped those who would shove her back into the grave.
