Breakfast Topic: I wish Diablo 3 had offline play

I’m not here to argue with Blizzard’s reasons for not having it. I just wish it existed, because frankly whenever I lose my internet connection and can’t do anything else I often find myself staring longingly at the Diablo 3 icon on the launcher. WoW is a game I often play to socialize, but Diablo 3 is a game I play to smash things, and I could just as happily smash things in total solitude as I could with a group.

It’s not really fair to call Diablo 3 an RPG in the modern sense — Games like Fallout 4, Dragon Age: Inquisition, and the Witcher series have pushed that in a completely different direction. What Diablo 3 delivers in spades is the visceral rush of emotions, the giddy lust for destruction, the panicked realization that you’ve pulled six packs of monsters with ever increasing suffixes of doom, and the aftermath as you stand atop your enemies staring at all that gold and all that junk and wondering if you have inventory space for it all. Is that a flare of orange? Did a Legendary drop?

I’d like to be able to do this whenever I want. I’d like offline play. Does the console version have that? I may have to go play the console version.
