You may be getting League tokens by watching OWL on Twitch

Update: Nicole Carpenter at Dot Esports reported earlier today a Blizzard rep says this is a test which is now over. However, with that confirmation comes news that this will be a part of a future system to give people incentive to watch Overwatch League on Twitch. Nicole’s post has more details on the goodies we’ll be seeing in the near future.

Many Overwatch League devotees have noticed a small increase in the number of League tokens they have since they began watching Overwatch League last night. This is an anecdotal report but as the saying goes, the plural of anecdote is data. There’s no official word on this at all so if you want to know exactly how to get your free tokens, beyond the usual instructions on linking your Twitch account to your Blizzard account, there’s not much more info we can give or questions we can answer. Speculatively, most people are presuming this has something to do with the ongoing cross-promotion with Twitch, but even that may be conjecture.

What we do know is, several reputable sources including Overbuff.gg have reported accumulating small amounts of Overwatch League tokens. Most are reporting in the neighborhood of five to a dozen or so. This is the currency used to purchase Overwatch League skins. Not all users are reporting the accumulation, either. There’s a lengthy thread about it on Reddit. Of course everything on Reddit should be taken with a grain of salt until otherwise confirmed. However, this thread is full of people reporting the same, many with screenshots as proof.

Personally, so far I got bupkis. However, I noticed a couple weeks back that I was logged out of Twitch everywhere. It’s kind of a pain in the butt to log in to the Twitch app on my Amazon Fire TV. Now I’m definitely taking the effort to use the Fire’s dinky little D-pad to type in my password containing several capital letters, a couple of symbols, the blood of a unicorn, and a few numbers into Twitch. I’ve been watching mostly on the official site when I’m at my computer. It’s been redirecting to the MLG broadcast instead of Twitch since week one. Put together, though I haven’t accumulated any tokens yet, that doesn’t rule it out.

If you haven’t linked your Twitch account to your Blizzard account you may want to get on that before 9 p.m. CST tonight, when the Seoul Dynasty take on NYXL. Just in case.
