We’re all Davy Jonesing for this Kul Tiran armor

Blizzard isn’t being subtle with the tentacle imagery in Kul Tiran armor in Battle for Azeroth. Some of the earliest datamined Battle for Azeroth armor — all the way back during the patch 7.3 PTR — contained details that evoked writhing tentacles. While that is mere questing gear, dungeon sets are beginning to appear in the Battle for Azeroth alpha and the tentacles are here to stay.

While utterly creepy to look at, the tentacle theme makes perfect sense and is a downright classic. It’s a none-too-subtle hint at N’Zoth’s potential involvement in the region and more generally brings to mind the legendary kraken. With the placement of the tentacles right there on the mouth, it evokes Davy Jones circa Pirates of the Caribbean. What else would you give spellcasters in a nautical-themed expansion, really?

Of course, tentacle-laden cloth sets aren’t the only armor Wowhead has datamined thus far. Early on in the alpha, Wowhead uncovered a variety of NPC appearances, as well as potential player head gear: captain’s hats, woolen caps, and bandanas. Their most recent round of datamining has uncovered a few more, including seven more variations on the captain’s hat:

Hopefully, these hats can actually be used in transmog — and come in a variety of armor types. If they’re purely cosmetic, or unavailable to players, that would be a huge bummer. Even though we don’t get our own ships in Battle for Azeroth, being a sailor and/or pirate is likely to be a big part of Alliance players’ personal fantasy in this expansion. The more tools we have to fulfill that fantasy, the better.

Curiously, Wowhead has also uncovered this shirt:

It is, in theory, a lumberjack shirt — and Battle for Azeroth data includes spells that transform players into a lumberjack. I can’t help but find this shirt utterly bizarre, though. The aforementioned spell mentions flannel, and flannel is the iconic lumberjack outfit. This shirt? This thing? That’s not a lumberjack shirt! It’s clearly the logo for Azeroth’s next greatest superhero, Circular Saw Man who is part man, part saw blade. Come on, Blizzard. Ditch the logo and give me some high res flannel shirts. My northern blood demands it.

Head on over to Wowhead to check out everything they’ve uncovered for Kul Tiran fashion, new and (somewhat) old.
