You can reforge your Azerite items in Battle for Azeroth… for a cost

We all missed having to pay to respec, right? Well, if you did, good news — you’ll be paying to reset the traits on your Azerite armor pieces in Battle for Azeroth.

Wowhead dug up the details on the new setup, which will definitely give you a sense of deja vu for the old days of WoW. If you wanted to reset your talents in classic, you had to go to your class trainer to do it. There was a gold price attached to the process, and the cost went up every time you used it. What’s interesting to me is that the NPC that you have to talk to in order to get started is called an Azerite Reforger. The process is “reforging” your Azerite pieces. To me, it’s kind of fascinating how older, removed concepts get brought back again and again in World of Warcraft. Reforging my Azerite pieces is definitely everything old is new again in my eyes.

Looking over the prices, they start at five gold and then double every time you reforge. The first time you do it, it’ll cost you five gold. But every time after it will double, so the next time is 10, then 20, then 40, then 80. As far as we can tell, there’s no upper limit. It isn’t per piece, so if you reforge your Head slot piece, your shoulder or chest slot will cost twice as much to reforge. (I tried to verify this on the Beta but the reforger wasn’t working at all for me, Beta being what it is.)

However, there is a decay built into the process. If you don’t reforge your Azerite gear for three days, the cost drops by half. So if you’re sparing with your reforges you can keep the price down to a degree. If you only reforged once every three days, you could theoretically keep your reforge price down to 5 gold. It also feels to me like you’d benefit from collecting multiple pieces for each slot and keeping them forged the way you’d want, then switching to get the traits you want. It’s also worth pointing out that when you reforge, all of your current traits on that item are reset. You’ll have to select all of them over again.

As of right now, there are two locations for Azerite Reforgers. Both are in the new Battle for Azeroth zones — Alliance go to the Tradewinds Market in Boralus, and Horde go to the Grand Bazaar in Dazar’alor. I’d hope there will eventually be one in the big two capital cities, at least. For now, though, the process has been implemented  — and this close to launch, I don’t expect major changes.
