When does the Overwatch Lunar New Year event start? January 16!
Overwatch’s annual Lunar New Year event is live now, and runs from January 16 through February 5. The seasonal, in-game event celebrates the Chinese New Year — this year being the Year of the Rat. Like any other limited time event, there will be a set of new skins and other cosmetics to obtain.

The Lunar New Year event brings with it a transformed Lijiang Tower map that’s decorated to fit the theme. It also unlocks the Capture the Flag mode for the duration of the event, as well as a Competitive version of it. This six versus six mode can be a nice break from the usual games of Overwatch. It emphasizes both attacking and defending in the same round and opens up opportunities for heroes like Wrecking Ball and Lucio to shine as flag runners.
Just interested in the rewards? Here are all the new skins you can earn this year.
We hope you’re ready for the inevitable weekly challenges now, because the Lunar New Year event has begun here.
