Everything you need to know to conquer Zul’Gurub in WoW Classic, now live
Zul’Gurub, the troll-filled, 20-player raid is now live in WoW Classic . Although this raid isn’t quite as exciting as Ahn’Qiraj and its splashy opening event — coming in Phase 5 of the Classic roll-out — it’s a fun change of pace from Molten Core and Blackwing Lair. And though it isn’t as big of a gear upgrade as we’ve seen in previous raids, it offers a ton of useful weapons, good catchup gear to get you ready for the Gates of Ahn’Qiraj event, a fabulous tiger mount, and unique enchants everyone will want.
Zul’Gurub is a deserted city located in northeastern Stranglethorn Vale. The Gurubashi Trolls used to live there but civil war and an enemy faction of Trolls known as the Atal’ai brought it to ruin. The Atal’ai are still scheming and trying to summon their blood god Hakkar, the Soulflayer. It’s our job to get in there, defeat the five High Priests and then rid the city of Hakkar himself.
Here’s everything you need to know about Zul’Gurub.
Zul’Gurub raid basics
When will Zul’Gurub be released? April 15
Where is Zul’Gurub? Northeastern Stranglethorn Vale

Zul’Gurub bosses
When it comes to defeating the bosses, know that all of them minus Hakkar have a large shared loot table, plus a smaller unique one for each boss, so you can expect some consistency in what you get each week. More than a third of the encounters here are optional, and two of these optional bosses had unique summoning requirements: one required fishing and another required alchemy. You may not see these encounters immediately, as they require a bit of work to unlock.
Required bosses
- High Priest Venoxis
- High Priestess Jeklik
- High Priestess Mar’li
- High Priest Thekal
- High Priestess Arlokk
- Hakkar
Optional bosses
- Bloodlord Mandokir & Ohgan
- Edge of Madness event, which requires a Gurubashi Mojo Madness potion and can summon bosses Gri’lek, Hazza’rah, Renataki, or Wushoolay
- Gahz’ranka, who is summoned via a fishing quest
- Jin’do the Hexxer
Zul’Gurub loot
Veteran players of the game know that Zul’Gurub is more of a catch-up raid. Much of the loot sits in a place between the value of Blackwing Lair and the upcoming Ahn’Qiraj. Still, there’s good loot to be had even for players who are decked out from Blackwing Lair.
Each class gets an exclusive trinket and a five-piece set with bonuses. To earn that set for any given class, you need to increase your reputation with the Zandalar Tribe. There’s a whole set of items that drop from enemies in the raid itself that you can turn in for reputation. Generally, each raid clear will earn you about 3,000 reputation, and completing quests and collecting turnins will offer you even more.
But even if you don’t need gear, Zul’Gurub is still a must for raiders because the helm, leg, and shoulder enchants outclass anything else you’ll find in the game.
