The Queue: The sun hat is essential

Kassandra wouldn’t be caught dead going on vacation without it.

Y’all, the new Odyssey DLC is wild. It really puts a spotlight on Kassandra’s role in the greater lore of the franchise and gives me hope that they might eventually reveal she’s not as dead as we think she is. But even if they don’t, it’s still a really cool little DLC. I’ll be trying the Valhalla one next, will report on that next chance I get.

It’s the Queue. I am so very tired. It’s -29 C outside my house today and it’s gonna get colder all week.

SPENCER MORGAN

Q4tQ: so if we just abandon whatever slimy, half-finished mass of a ‘story’ Blizzard is pushing out it’s orifice and dedicated our remaining time in Shadowlands to recreating the works of Gilbert and Sullivan, what songs are you rewriting for WoW?

Sylvanas is easily a ‘Modern ranger general’
Jaina is ‘Monarch of the Sea’

If you honestly think it’s that bad, just stop. Go do something else. There’s no reason to keep subjecting yourself to a story you believe to be fecal matter. If you dislike it that much, stop hammering your face into it. There are other games. Heck, go listen to some Gilbert and Sullivan, they’re okay.

The story wasn’t made by Blizzard, a faceless corporate entity, it was made by a lot of really talented people who work extremely hard on it. It’s fine to not like it. But I remember the first really nasty negative review I got on Things That Never Were, and it’s been almost two decades. Seeing someone compare the hard work you’ve put in for literally months if not years to an undigested bolus does not feel good.

There are a lot of games you can play instead of WoW if you’re disliking the story. You can always check in later and see if the story is moving in a direction you prefer.

DUTRIMI

Is it a Rossi Queue tomorrow?

Yes. Well, today, now. It was tomorrow when you asked the question.

DUTRIMI 2 AS THE CANON PROTAGONIST

Question for Rossi: Did you play Odyssey as Kassandra the first time through? If yes, that very well may explain why Alexios does not fit for you. This is why I find Kassandra as the hero to not work for me, she is seared in my mind as the villain.

Nope. I played as Alexios first, because I used to always play games like Odyssey as the male protagonist if there was a choice. I played Mass Effect as BroShep, I’d always played Dragon Age games as the male option.

No, it was literally playing Alexios for a while that got me to switch to Kassandra, and once I did, I just vastly preferred her to Alexios. This isn’t because Alexios’ voice actor is bad, but there’s a different feel to yet another growly voiced dude vs a woman in Ancient Greece, a society that was not friendly to women, going around kicking butt and wasting fools that get in her way. It just hits different, and in addition, Alexios often looks and sounds very gruff and serious, while Kassandra has a lot more humor and sarcasm in her delivery.

If you like Alexios, cool, I’m happy you enjoy the game. I have my problems with the fact that Ubisoft corporate forced Ubisoft Quebec to put Alexios in as a playable option because they didn’t think people would buy a game with a woman lead. The story was conceived and written with Kassandra as the protagonist and Alexios as Deimos, and then they were forced to bend over backwards to get Alexios in as a protagonist, and it doesn’t sit right by me. But that’s not Alexios the character’s fault, nor the fault of Michael Antonakos, who is a fine voice actor.

It’s just that we’ve already had Altair, Ezio, Connor Kenway, Edward Kenway… we’ve done this. We’ve done the growly voiced broody protagonist. A fierce, dangerous, sometimes goofy woman lead? It’s a departure and I loved it.

JALAMENOS THE ASCENDED

Alternate reality and 55 years into the future but my choice of car will always be the 1977 Porsche 911.

Mine’s a motorcycle. I just like how much easier it is to get around the traffic in Night City on them.

LEFTY

Coke tastes like diabetes in a can, so I think you’re wrong about which one is utter swill!

Pepsi spent years marketing their brand of sugar water as being sweeter than Coke. When I drank soda, I generally preferred Coke to Pepsi, so I’m admittedly biased, but it’s just fact that Pepsi deliberately is sweeter than Coke.

Okay, that’s the Queue. I’m gonna go watch Eivor and Kassandra fight, then team up, and who knows maybe they flirt some, Kass is a bit of a flirt.
