The Queue: More Tetris than the human mind can safely absorb

Without bumming people out with too much real life stuff, the past week has been nightmarishly stressful and I’ve been using Tetris Effect on my Xbox — thanks again, Game Pass — to get through it. I’ve found that it’s surprisingly helpful when I’m panicking about things I can’t possibly change to just zone out and play Tetris for an hour or so. Or more. A lot more, really.

It’s gotten to the point that I keep thinking about why Tetris got big and no one tried to make a game using Pentominos instead of Tetrominos. So I did some research, and it turns out that someone did — namely, Alexey Pajitnov, one of the people who invented Tetris. It turned out that Pajitnov was inspired by the original Pentomino Puzzle when working on the game, but the Pentominos are simply hard to fit into a falling block game, and so they simplified it down to Tetrominoes instead.

I think it’s just as well, as Pentris sounds vaguely not safe for work. Maybe it’s just me, because this week I have gotten so little sleep, y’all. Just so little sleep.

KALCHEUS THE SKYSCOURGE

*tap tap tap*

And? How the bleeping tetromino am I supposed to come up with anything to say about *tap tap tap* exactly? I guess I just did, but man, Kal, ask a brother a question or something.

I still remember that time you were playing a Dwarf Fighter and I was playing an emotionally stunted Kalashtar Monk and I made a small doll of your character as an apology for having teased you about a cursed doll you’d fought the previous week.

No it has nothing to do with anything he gives me *tap tap tap* to work with here and I haven’t slept since Sunday, guys.

RETPALLYJIL

My technique for finding M+ groups.

In my notes section, I write “Don’t be a jerk.”

Before we start, I say, “I definitely want to time this, but I’m not going to be a big baby about it if we don’t.”

I have generally good luck with this method.

See, Kal? While it’s not a question, at least it’s something.

I personally stumble into Mythic+ because other people in my guild are going and I figure I might as well go too. This week I haven’t gotten to play WoW much due to the aforementioned bad stuff that happened, but last week I ended up running about four Muthic+ that way and I had a good time. Sometimes I actually enjoy the dungeons where we fail to time them just because they can be funny, and usually it’s the trash that really makes it a struggle. Bosses aren’t so bad.

I’ve been pushing my nose into 10+ but it’s slow going, a lot of time folks just want to clear a few 8s for Valor so I just take what I can get.

THOMAS STRANGE

Prove you’re not a robot is getting weirder:
Select all bikes. “Okay, easy enough”.
It includes a road sign of a bike. A road sign. Which is explicitly not a bike. I mean… didn’t we already do this, Rene Magritte?

Well, in the very comment section I pulled this statement from there’s a big thread full of supposed ‘AI generated art’ (Don’t get me started on this whole deal, it’s a real sore spot for me) and imagine even having to explain what that is to a computer trying hard to figure out which commenter is secretly a robot back in 2000. The line between human and machine gets blurrier all the time, and so, we have to start getting kind of surrealistic with it. Or Dadaist, depending on the day.

KALCHEUS THE SKYSCOURGE IS BACK

More trading post weapons, less simple

I’m a little surprised that Kalcheus didn’t mention that the Crimson Nexus Crescent he linked in his comment actually brings back a datamined appearance from Wrath of the Lich King that never made it into the live game. I also recently collected one of the swords from Culling of Stratholme that hadn’t made it in when Wrath of the Lich King released as well, you can find that model here.

Ever since I saw the original post on MMO-Champion back in 2009, I’ve wanted some of these models to make it live. Specifically, I’ve wanted this model.

This is a sword that we can see in this collection of images of weapons that were datamined, but while many of them were attainable by players — some were DK exclusive weapons, while others appeared in dungeons that released later in the expansion like the Pit of Saron or the Halls of Reflection — this particular sword has been used repeatedly by NPC’s but has never been attainable by players, and I want it.

Okay, that’s the Queue for today. I’m going to go worry about things and play Tetris a lot.
