How to upgrade your Seneschal Companion in Diablo 4 Season 3

In Diablo 4 Season 3, we get a not-so-little robot buddy to support us throughout the Season — the Seneschal Companion. This new friend (who you can pet!) exists to complement your build, but the important question is: how? And, more importantly, how can you make your Seneschal more powerful as your own power grows?

The Seneschal’s powers are driven by Governing Stones and augmented by Tuning Stones. You can have two Governing Stones equipped at a given time, with three Tuning Stones applied to each Governing Stone. There are 12 Governing Stones and 27 Tuning Stones, with two tuning stones only available from Uber Malphas kills. Blizzard has released a full list of the perks of both Governing and Tuning Stones in their post about Season 3, if you’d like to peruse them yourself. The Uber Tuning Stones will be very powerful, per the developer’s update live stream.

Tuning Stones can be farmed in a few ways, such as completing Vaults, earning Whisper caches, or crafting from Shattered Stones at the Jeweler. Now, Season 3 is one of the few instances in gaming where you want duplicates because duplicate Stones are used to level your equipped Stones! Collect or craft more of the same Stones you have equipped and fuse them to grant experience to your equipped Stones. Like Season 2’s Vampiric Powers, you cannot target an upgrade — whether crafting or running vaults, the Stones dropped are random. There are 10 levels to each stone, and each requires an increasing number of stones to upgrade — one stone for levels 2 through 5, two for level 6, three for rank 7.

Crafting at the Jeweler is straightforward — a new tab has been added in the Jeweler’s UI called “Craft Construct Items.” It has one recipe in it: the Uncertain Seneschal Stone Cache, which costs 200 Shattered Stone and 20 Iron Chunks in materials and 1000 gold to craft. The cache will contain random Governing or Tuning Stones.

Also like Season 2, powering up your Stones with a level increase improves that Stone. The improvement depends on the type of Stone:

• Governing Stones — leveling up increases the potency and ability of the attack.
• Tuning Stones — leveling up can add additional projectiles or augment the damage type they perform.

Your Seneschal scales with your character’s power and will follow you everywhere in Sanctuary throughout the Season. They exist to help you throughout your Season 3 adventures, and you can enjoy them right now. See you in Sanctuary!
