How to participate in the Daggerheart TTRPG playtest, now live!

Darrington Press has opened up a beta playtest for Daggerheart, its upcoming high-fantasy themed TTRPG, which is now live — this is one of the game’s final development stages before a tentative 2025 release. If you’re interested in checking out what the Darrington team has been creating, you can participate in the beta playtest as long as you’re age 18 or over!

Here’s what you need to know to join the playtest for Daggerheart.

How to get Daggerheart playtest materials (and learn more about the game)

Darrington Press has released a 377 page playtest manual, a quickstart adventure with five pre-made characters, guides for each class, and a full list of domain spells. It’s a good amount of information to absorb, but the quickstart should let you jump into play immediately. To simplify character creation, Daggerheart’s playtest content is also integrated with Demiplane, so you can make a custom character without having to memorize all the rules first.

Here’s where to find the Daggerheart playtest rules:

  • The Daggerheart website and DriveThruRPG offer PDF files for download, including domain cards, giving you the choice to print or access them electronically when you play.
  • Demiplane has the playtest content online for easy browsing, as well as a digital character creator.

The Critical Role YouTube channel also has some videos on how to get started, including a general guide to game mechanics, a walkthrough of character creation, and a two-hour character creation session with the entire Critical Role cast before their own Daggerheart playtest livestream at 7pm pacific on March 12 on YouTube and Twitch.

Submitting feedback about Daggerheart

The Darrington Press team has asked that participants of the playtest do their best to thoroughly test out the game, which includes “breaking” things, and then submitting feedback surveys on how to make it better.

Feedback surveys will are available via Daggerheart’s landing webpage or through e-mail if you signed up to play, and probably on Demiplane’s Daggerheart Nexus page. So, when you see something that doesn’t look quite right in one of these applications or in a piece of material you downloaded, make you sure you (politely!) let them know what it is and where.

A new fantasy adventure is on the horizon and it’s up to you on how you want to play, so round up a group of adventurers and get out there!
