Five strong cross-class decks in Hearthstone’s Perils in Paradise expansion

Perils in Paradise has been an odd expansion balance-wise, with incredibly aggressive decks winning games by turns four or five, combo decks dealing lethal damage from hand probably too soon, and control decks resurrecting a plethora of nearly unkillable copies of Zilliax. My honest advice would be to wait for balance changes to tone down the damage and aggression decks are capable of at the moment before crafting anything — unless you enjoy this kind of environment.

But if you do like this kind of environment, we have five strong decks that utilize the new Tourist keyword to include cards from other classes, including the deck types that are making waves in the current metagame. This should help you either jump into the current meta or make a best attempt at countering it. If you want to play any of these decks yourself, be aware that they can be expensive to craft: you’ll need to include the Legendary cards that have the Tourist keyword into your deck to be able to use cards from other classes.

So let’s have a look at the most interesting Perils in Paradise decks (so far).

Combo Druid

Card List:

  • 2x (1) Giftwrapped Whelp
  • 2x (1) Go with the Flow (Mage)

Deck Code:

AAECAZICAsGVBqW7Bg67lQbXnAbanAbqqAbvqQaHsQaUsQbZsQbVugbCvgaBvwaAygaA1wb35QYAAA==

The idea with this deck is to fling spells — especially Swipe, and extra copies of Swipe you’ll generate from Malfurion’s Gift, Bottomless Toy Chest, and especially Tidepool Pupil — directly at your opponent’s face. You’ll also have many ways to increase your Spell Damage, and Concierge will make those Mage cards cost less.

The Dragon package is also there to add some consistency to your draws and mana usage (including powerful mana refresh effects), and perhaps add an extra threat to the board (that also allows you to easily recover some health) in Fye, the Setting Sun.

Mech Warrior

Zilliax with the Virus and Perfect modules — dubbed “Unkilliax” by the community — combined with the Druid card Hydration Station: that’s the stuff of nightmares, right there. Your game plan is to control your opponent and eventually summon your Zilliax, a 9-mana, 4/6 minion with, ahem (clears throat): Elusive, Poisonous, Reborn, Divine Shield, Taunt, Lifesteal, and Rush.

That monstrosity is, by itself, a game-winning minion — but then, after your opponent is forced to spend precious resources to get rid of it, most likely losing several minions (since it can’t be targeted by spells, has Divine Shield, and has Poisonous) and healing you (since it has Lifesteal), you use Hydration Station to summon three more copies of Unkilliax. That’s it, that’s the plan, and honestly, it’s more than enough.

Zarimi Priest

Card List:

  • 1x (1) Adaptive Amalgam
  • 2x (1) Crimson Clergy
  • 2x (1) Funnel Cake
  • 2x (1) Giftwrapped Whelp
  • 2x (1) Ship’s Chirurgeon
  • 2x (2) Dreamboat
  • 2x (2) Power Chord: Synchronize
  • 2x (2) Scale Replica
  • 2x (2) Whelp Wrangler
  • 1x (3) Chillin’ Vol’jin
  • 1x (3) Gorgonzormu
  • 1x (3) Razorscale
  • 2x (3) Trusty Fishing Rod (Hunter)
  • 1x (4) Narain Soothfancy
  • 1x (5) Magatha, Bane of Music
  • 1x (5) Timewinder Zarimi
  • 1x (7) Aman’Thul
  • 1x (7) Sasquawk (Hunter)
  • 2x (7) Thirsty Drifter
  • 1x (8) Zilliax Deluxe 3000
    • 1x (3) Pylon Module
    • 1x (5) Ticking Module

Deck Code:

Timewinder Zarimi is a very powerful card that allows you to take an extra turn if you fulfill its condition, which is to summon eight Dragons during the game. The Hunter card Sasquawk has a similar “turn-repeating” effect to make your game plan even more consistent.

But before you get to Zarimi, you’re making use of Adaptive Amalgam, a card that refuses to lose its buffs. You’re replaying Amalgam many times, since it gets reshuffled into your deck when it dies, and you’re fishing for it with the help of tools such as Hunter card Trusty Fishing Rod to ensure you play it again. Since it has “All” minion types, it counts as a Dragon, which in turn helps fulfill the condition for your Zarimi.

Pirate Demon Hunter

Card List:

  • 2x (0) Through Fel and Flames
  • 2x (1) Acupuncture (Priest)
  • 2x (1) Brain Masseuse (Priest)
  • 2x (1) Burning Heart
  • 1x (1) Patches the Pilot
  • 2x (1) Sock Puppet Slitherspear
  • 2x (1) Treasure Distributor
  • 2x (2) Adrenaline Fiend
  • 2x (2) Coconut Cannoneer
  • 2x (2) Quick Pick
  • 2x (2) Sigil of Skydiving
  • 2x (3) Hozen Roughhouser
  • 2x (3) Paraglide
  • 2x (4) Dangerous Cliffside
  • 1x (4) Kayn Sunfury
  • 1x (5) Aranna, Thrill Seeker
  • 1x (8) Zilliax Deluxe 3000
    • 1x (3) Pylon Module
    • 1x (5) Ticking Module

Deck Code:

Who would have thought that Priest, of all classes, would be the one to add even more aggression to Demon Hunters? But cards like Acupuncture and the Pirate Brain Masseuse almost seem like they were designed with Demon Hunters, rather than Priests, in mind.

Patches the Pilot will fill your deck with Charging Pirates, Sigil of Skydiving will summon them next turn, and Dangerous Cliffside will summon them immediately. You’ll want those Pirates to attack alongside minions that synergize with them, such as Hozen Roughhouser, Treasure Distributor, and Adrenaline Fiend. And the role of the ever-present Zilliax in this deck is to buff those small pirates even more, making them big enough to be a constant threat.

Pirate Shaman

Card List:

  • 2x (1) Murloc Growfin
  • 1x (1) Patches the Pilot (Demon Hunter)
  • 2x (1) Pop-Up Book
  • 2x (1) Shock Hopper
  • 2x (1) Treasure Distributor
  • 2x (2) Adrenaline Fiend (Demon Hunter)
  • 2x (2) Jam Session
  • 2x (2) Sigil of Skydiving (Demon Hunter)
  • 2x (2) Trusty Companion
  • 1x (3) Carefree Cookie
  • 1x (3) Gorgonzormu
  • 2x (3) Turn the Tides
  • 2x (4) Backstage Bouncer
  • 2x (4) Dangerous Cliffside (Demon Hunter)
  • 1x (5) Wave of Nostalgia
  • 1x (6) Golganneth, the Thunderer
  • 2x (6) Horn of the Windlord
  • 1x (8) Zilliax Deluxe 3000
    • 1x (3) Pylon Module
    • 1x (5) Ticking Module

Deck Code:

The Pirate raids continue with Shaman (bolstered by Demon Hunter) this time. And the truth is that this deck has an almost identical game plan to the Pirate Demon Hunter one. You’re using pretty much the same staple cards to win — even the Zilliax is identical. It’s just your other tools to control the game that are different, with the Titan Golganneth and the powerful weapon Horn of the Windlord helping you keep things in check.

We hope these decks can paint a picture of what kind of gameplay we’re seeing so far in Perils in Paradise. Let’s stay tuned for balance changes in the future — and since this is the vacation expansion, perhaps let’s hope for things to slow down a bit.
