Inactive players can play World of Warcraft for free, now through Monday morning
For the next three days — August 1 through August 5 — anybody can play WoW for free. The Welcome Back Weekend is a move to celebrate the upcoming launch for The War Within, and any player who has ever had an active subscription can log in and play. Everything in the current game, even the Radiant Echoes prepatch event, is open to returning players. If it’s really been just that long, they can feel free to go through the new starting experience up through level 10 to re-acclimate before getting dropped into the Dragonflight leveling experience, or choose a different leveling experience with Chromie. I’m not your real Dadghar, I can’t tell you what to do.
Players who have never had a subscription or added a game time card to their account are still allowed to go through the existing Free Trial up through level 20. However, that’s where their journey will end, as far as this promotion goes — until they pony up, anyway.
The promotion ends August 5 at 10 a.m. PT, so now is the time to bug your guildies from back in the day to try to relive their glory days. However, if their glory days more closely align with WoW Classic, they’re out of luck — you still need a sub to play Classic. Also out of luck? People who already have an active subscription. Thanks for the loyalty, you get nothing except a whole lot more people making those Radiant Echoes even laggier. Enjoy!
