How to complete the Season Journey in Diablo 4 Season 5 — now live!

Diablo 4 Season 5 has just begun, and with it comes a brand new Season Journey, a series of gameplay challenges that rewards you with gear, crafting materials, and other useful rewards to help you progress. You don’t have to finish it to hit level 100 or complete the Battle Pass, but you may want to for the bragging rights and unique titles.

I think this Season Journey may be a little less difficult than the last because it doesn’t require you to kill the Tormented Echo bosses (as long as you do the other activities) and Lilith, a boss that leaves no room for error, is off the list entirely. There’s also much less focus on Helltides this season, which after the endless Helltide grind of Season 4 I am very glad of. Instead, the objectives for this Season Journey seem fairly well-balanced between activities, with a slight lean towards the new Infernal Hordes event.

It’s the difficulty of the Infernal Hordes that will be this season’s wildcard. During the PTR, players felt it was too difficult to get the Infernal Compasses required to start the event, and that it was both easy and unrewarding. We’ll have to see how it balances in the end, particularly at the higher tiers you’ll need to do to complete the Season Journey.

Here’s a rundown of what you have to do to finish the Season Journey in Diablo 4 Season 5.

Chapter 1

Chapter 1 objectives

Complete 9 of 11 objectives to earn all rewards and unlock Chapter 2:

  • Complete 1 Hellbreach
  • Complete 3 World Events
  • Buy 3 items from the Purveyor of Curiosities (requires Obels)
  • Defeat 5 elite monsters
  • Collect 50 Bundled Herbs
  • Collect 50 Rawhide
  • Collect 50 Iron Chunks
  • Defeat 100 Demons
  • Upgrade your potion to Tiny (requires level 10)
  • Open 1 Tortured Gift (Helltide)
  • Reach Mother’s Gift Rank 1 (seasonal quest)

As is typical, the first tier of the Season Journey is extremely easy. Start the seasonal quest and do some adventuring across Sanctuary, collecting resources and doing low-level activities along the way. To find Hellbreaches, look for the green leaf icon on your map.

Chapter 1 rewards

  • Greater Favor, to unlock new Battle Pass tiers
  • First Journey Cache, containing consumables
  • First Journey Crafting Cache, containing level-appropriate crafting materials
  • First Journey Equipment Cache, containing a legendary weapon and boots for your class

Chapter 2

Complete 8 of 10 objectives to earn all rewards and unlock Chapter 3:

Chapter 2 objectives

  • Complete 1 World Event with Mastery
  • Learn 1 recipe of Magic rarity or higher
  • Clear 1 Stronghold
  • Complete 5 dungeons
  • Complete 5 Hellbreaches
  • Unlock 5 Aspects in the Codex of Power
  • Craft 5 Elixirs at the Alchemist
  • Defeat 5 Harbingers (Helltide)
  • Collect 100 Veiled Crystals from salvaging gear
  • Reach Mother’s Gift Rank 3 (seasonal quest)

This tier is also pretty straightforward, without anything you’ll really have to go out of your way to finish. Keep playing doing a variety of activities until you complete this one. Mother’s Gift reputation, at least in these early levels, is easy to acquire from any activity that requires killing powerful servants of hell — so almost any activity — and goes pretty fast.

Chapter 2 rewards

  • Greater Favor, to unlock new Battle Pass tiers
  • Second Journey Cache, containing consumables
  • Second Journey Crafting Cache, containing level-appropriate crafting materials
  • Second Journey Equipment Cache, containing a legendary weapon, helm, and ring for your class

Chapter 3

Complete 9 of 11 objectives to earn all rewards and unlock Chapter 4:

Chapter 3 objectives

  • Reach level 40
  • Complete 1 Legion Event
  • Learn 1 recipe of Rare rarity or higher
  • Clear 3 Strongholds
  • Temper 5 Affixes on to gear
  • Obtain 5 Caches from the Tree of Whispers
  • Complete 10 Hellbreaches
  • Unlock 10 Aspects in the Codex of Power
  • Complete 10 dungeons
  • Open 10 Tortured Gifts (Helltide)
  • Reach Mother’s Gift Rank 5 (seasonal quest)

If you’ve been doing a range of activities, you’ll probably finish these objectives well before you reach level 40. Just make sure you don’t fall into a pattern of grinding away at a single activity, and this tier should unlock quickly.

Chapter 3 rewards

  • Greater Favor, to unlock new Battle Pass tiers
  • Third Journey Cache, containing consumables
  • Third Journey Crafting Cache, containing level-appropriate crafting materials
  • Third Journey Summoning Cache, containing materials to summon bosses in World Tier 3
  • Third Journey Equipment Cache, containing a legendary weapon, chest armor, and amulet

Chapter 4

Complete 9 of 11 objectives to earn all rewards and unlock Slayer.

Chapter 4 objectives

  • Complete 5 Nightmare Dungeons
  • Obtain 20 caches from the Tree of Whispers
  • Unlock 25 Aspects in the Codex of Power
  • Defeat Echo of Varshan  (World Tier 3)
  • Equip a Sacred Legendary in every slot (World Tier 3)
  • Defeat 666 Monsters while at max threat level (World Tier 3, Helltide)
  • Defeat 10 Aether Fiends (Infernal Hordes)
  • Acquire 5 Infernal Compasses (Infernal Hordes)
  • Enhance 5 Infernal Compasses with Abyssal Scrolls (Infernal Hordes)
  • Defeat the Fell Council (Infernal Hordes)
  • Reach Mother’s Gift Rank 7 (seasonal quest)

Chapter 4 will push you into World Tier 3, in the first notable difficulty increase in the Season Journey. Though there’s no fixed level requirement to complete this chapter, you can expect to be in your 50s to successfully navigate World Tier 3 and complete these challenges. This is the first chapter that requires you to tackle the Infernal Hordes event, which will be the biggest challenge this tier — and you’ll have to do at least some of these activities to finish this chapter. Here’s our guide on completing Infernal Hordes to get you started.

Chapter 4 rewards

  • Greater Favor, to unlock new Battle Pass tiers
  • Fourth Journey Cache, containing consumables
  • Fourth Journey Crafting Cache, containing crafting materials
  • Fourth Journey Equipment Cache, containing a legendary weapon, gloves, pants, and ring
  • Fourth Journey Summoning Cache, containing materials to summon bosses in World Tier 4
  • Power and Sacrifice emblem

Slayer

Complete 8 of 10 objectives to earn all rewards and unlock Champion.

Slayer objectives

  • Reach level 75
  • Complete a Tier 21 or higher Nightmare Dungeon
  • Unlock 50 Aspects in the Codex of Power
  • Defeat 100 Champion monsters (World Tier 4)
  • Equip Ancestral Legendary items in every slot (World Tier 4)
  • Defeat 20 Helltide Commanders (Helltide)
  • Defeat the Fell Council in Tier 2 (Infernal Hordes)
  • Dfeat 30 Aether Fiends, Aether Lords, and Infernal Demons (Infernal Hordes)
  • Collect 666 Burning Aether (Hellbreaches, Infernal Hordes)
  • Reach Mother’s Gift Rank 12 (seasonal quest)

The Slayer chapter will send you to World Tier 4 for the first time, and it can be a challenging leap until you collect Ancestral Legendaries. Beyond that, the focus on Infernal Hordes continues, and you’ll be doing quite a few of them to close out this tier.

Slayer rewards

  • Epic Favor, to unlock new Battle Pass tiers
  • Slayer’s Cache, containing consumables
  • Slayer’s Crafting Cache, containing crafting materials
  • Slayer’s Equipment Cache, containing two Ancestral Legendaries and an Ancestral Unique
  • Slayer’s Summoning Cache, containing materials to summon bosses in World Tier 4

Champion

Complete 8 of 10 objectives to earn all rewards and unlock Destroyer.

Champion objectives

  • Complete Artificer’s Tier 1 or higher (The Pit)
  • Temper 20 Affixes onto Ancestral gear
  • Complete a Tier 30 or higher Nightmare Dungeon
  • Acquire 6,666 Cinders (Helltide)
  • Defeat the Beast in the Ice (World Tier 4)
  • Defeat Lord Zir (World Tier 4)
  • Defeat 10 Ladder Bosses (World Tier 4)
  • Destroy 25 Aetheric Mass (World Tier 4, Infernal Hordes)
  • Defeat the Fell Council Tier 3 (Infernal Hordes)
  • Reach Mother’s Gift Rank 17 (seasonal quest)

If you’ve made it this far, you’re committed to hitting the Diablo 4 endgame. You should be in the 80s or 90s at this point, with a solid set of Ancestral gear with Aspects that suit your build. At that level, most of this content shouldn’t phase you — and I think in general, the difficulty curve for this Season Journey is very reasonable.

You’re really starting to push into boss ladder here, with specific requirements for the Beast and Zir, in addition to the general requirement for 10 ladder bosses. You’ll probably be hitting that many bosses on the ladder to get the summoning materials for other bosses, so it shouldn’t be too bad — if you’ve already collected a good set of gear. If you’re struggling, focus on getting the right Legendaries and Tempering them with good stats to help you through. If you aren’t sure how to get to these bosses, read our guide on summoning bosses.

Champion rewards

  • Epic Favor, to unlock new Battle Pass tiers
  • Champion’s Cache, containing consumables
  • Champion’s Crafting Cache, containing level-appropriate crafting materials
  • Champion’s Equipment Cache, containing two Ancestral Legendaries and an Ancestral Unique
  • Champion’s Summoning Cache, containing materials to summon Tormented Echo bosses
  • The Gates of Hell emblem

Destroyer

Complete 9 of 11 objectives to earn all rewards.

Destroyer objectives

  • Reach level 100
  • Defeat 10 World Bosses
  • Equip 8 Ancestral Unique items simultaneously
  • Improve 5 Paragon Glyphs to Rank 15
  • Masterwork one piece of gear gear to Rank 8
  • Defeat Tormented Echo of Andariel
  • Defeat Tormented Echo of Duriel
  • Defeat the Fell Council in Tier 6 (Infernal Hordes)
  • Open a Greater Spoils of Hell Chest (Infernal Hordes)
  • Enhance Infernal Compasses to Tier 8 with Abyssal Scrolls (Infernal Hordes)
  • Reach Mother’s Gift Rank 17

The final Season Journey tier requires you to hit level 100 — the first time this achievement has been required. However, the Season Journey no longer requires defeating Lilith, and if you want to you could skip all of the game’s most difficult bosses.

As I mentioned earlier, the wildcard for the season is the Infernal Hordes event. We don’t yet know how difficult it will be to clear the event’s Fell Council bosses on higher tiers. I suspect it won’t be a challenge on the level of Andariel, Duriel, and Lilith, but it may still take some effort to get and upgrade your summoning materials for that tier. Mother’s Gift Rank 17 may also be a sticking point, as hitting max-level Iron Wolves reputation was a grind last season, even if you really focused on running Helltides.

Destroyer rewards

  • Destroyer’s Cache, containing consumables
  • Destroyer’s Crafting Cache, containing level-appropriate crafting materials
  • Destroyer’s Equipment Cache, containing two Ancestral Legendaries and two Ancestral Uniques
  • Destroyer’s Summoning Cache, containing materials to summon Tormented Echo bosses
  • Player titles Infernal (prefix) and Antagonist (suffix)

And that’s all for the Season Journey in Diablo 4 Season 5. If you’ve made it this far, you’ve well and truly mastered this season of Diablo.

Good luck with this season and earning all of the rewards!
