Is Velma Dinkley joining Warcraft Rumble in Season 8? Blizzard Watch examines the evidence

As has become tradition, the Warcraft Rumble team released a teaser for Season 8 ahead of its launch next week. Front and center in that teaser is Rumble’s next Cenarion unit, the Dryad.

However, just off to the side of the shadowy unit is a book page featuring a face. And that face looks an awful lot like Velma of Scooby-Doo fame. Naturally, one must now ask: Is Velma Dinkley coming to Warcraft Rumble? Let’s take a very serious look at the evidence.

Update: Blizzard released the official Season 8 update overview shortly after I finished writing this. There is no mention of Velma in the patch notes, but the timing is suspicious… too suspicious. Also, there’s a redacted teaser for Season 9 in there, so I’m pretty sure everything below still checks out.

Velma Dinkley is no stranger to crossover

For those unfamiliar, Velma Dinkley is not just famous for existing across the multiverse of Scooby-Doo iterations — she will also kick Arya Stark’s butt in MultiVersus before calling the Mystery Machine to take away Superman/The Iron Giant. She has no qualms about stepping into another universe and causing chaos.

Not to mention, one of Velma’s variants in MultiVersus is Witch Velma — what better time to join Rumble than as a witch shortly after the introduction of Scholomance, A.K.A. The School of Necromancy? Heck, she’s solved so many mysteries that she surely knows exactly how to blend in the the point of being unrecognizable*. It only makes sense that someone as knowledgeable in both witchcraft and mysteries as Velma would want to broaden her horizons to a new universe.

*With a mask.

What about Mei from Heroes of the Storm and Overwatch?

We cannot dismiss the possibility that this is also a teaser for an a-Mei-zing crossover appearance from our favorite ice-wielding hero, Mei. The evidence:

  • Mei has glasses
  • Mei already exists in more than one Blizzard game
  • Death has often been depicted as cold. Death. Cold. Scholomance. Mei.

Could Mei, in fact, be joining Rumble in Season 8 Season 9? Unfortunately, I think this is less likely than Velma because I really want Velma in Rumble. Also, Mei doesn’t travel without Snowball and, well, I don’t see Snowball anywhere, do you?

Am I just missing something obvious?

I have considered this; however, it is actually not possible.

Maybe it’s just a nod to the hard-working artists on the Rumble team

Look, I’m all for #TeamVelmaInRumble — but there is also a distinct and likely possibility that the doodle is actually a reference to one of the artists on the Rumble team. If you take a look at the ArtStation post highlighting all the hard work done by the Rumble team, you’ll notice a wealth of artists who have contributed to the game over time.

The artwork contained within this post is the result of massive amounts of passionate work, from multiple artists, over several years of development. We grew as artists, leaders and game makers on this project, and it is a privilege to present to you the fruits of this amazing art team’s labor.

In all likelihood, our mystery character is not a character at all but rather one of the artists including a fun doodle either as a nod to their work or even just because they felt it was cute. And even if not? It’s pretty cool to stop and take a look at work of the artists behind the game. Y’all rock and we appreciate you <3

Warcraft Rumble Season 8 launches next week on August 21 at 1 p.m. CT. Until then, jeepers, zoinks, and jinkies to you all.
