When is the Overwatch 2 Lunar New Year event for 2025?

While the cold January days drag on outside, Overwatch 2 players have something bright and joyful to look forward to indoors. The Lunar New Year event will help kick off 2025 in style. The Year of the Snake begins January 29, and the celebration in-game always falls at the same time. If we’re assuming that Overwatch 2 will maintain its nine-week long season schedule, then we can expect the Lunar New Year event to happen right in the middle of Season 14. The three-week long Lunar New Year event will most likely be from January 28-February 18.

This time span often brings Capture the Flag modes back into rotation in the Arcade. Last year also had the Mischief and Magic mode (which you may know from other shooters as prop hunt) return on a festive, firework-filled Lijiang Night Market map. It seems likely that both of those will be returning for the 2025 celebration.

The cosmetics are usually pretty fab for Lunar New Year, so be sure to keep an eye on what the weekly challenges are and what’s in the Shop rotation each week. Blizzard has been resurfacing past years’ unique skins as rewards, so this might be your chance to snap up the legendaries from 2024 if you didn’t already unlock them. Turtleship D.Va, Dragonfire Bastion, and Mystic Swan Mercy are all pretty snazzy, and if we’re lucky, we might be getting some new looks as well. It would make sense for Kiriko to finally get some cosmetics tied to the Lunar New Year event, and maybe the whole astral tie-in means there will be something special for spacefarer Juno in the shop this year.
