Godspawn is the first quarterly update for Guild Wars 2: The Janthir Wilds, and it’s live right now!
The Janthir Wilds has been out for three months now and that means it’s time for the first free quarterly post-expansion release. The latest update to Guild Wars 2 is titled Godspawn and will continue the Wayfinder’s fight against the titans Decima and Greer, and it’s live now. This fight takes the form of the first new 10-player raid for GW2 in five years as well as a 50-player Convergence fight, all taking place at Mount Balrior.
As the first new raid in some time the Normal mode of the fight will be easier in order to attract new and casual players. There will be Challenge and Legendary modes, but those will come in the second update in a few months. While the Convergence takes place in the same map as the raid, the structure is more like the traditional GW2 meta-events, with objectives to complete before the next phase of the Convergence begins. Also unlike the raid, the Convergence will require you to unlock access to it by completing the fight as part of the campaign — it’s framed as story being told, and the player needs to be sure it’s being told correctly. The raid doesn’t require story completion, so players will be able to attempt it as soon as they want.
There will be three new chapters in the campaign during Godspawn, but the next new map won’t arrive until the next update. As a result there aren’t any new Karma hearts or exploration to complete yet, so players unconcerned with group activities might find themselves a little starved for things to do if they’ve already grown tired of the latest expansion content.
Homestead updates, new Legendary aspects, and more
Of course even if you’re tired of helping out the Lowland Kodan there’s still your new Homestead to attend to. A new Mastery rank “Adept” is now available for players to unlock in order to craft decorations — including a fish tank! For those who wish to craft something more lethal there’s a brand new Legendary Spear Klowbjarne Geirr to forge. The Legendary will have a choice of six styles of blades ranging from simple spear to halberd, and the standard GW2 Legendary highlight and footstep effect is a wispy shadow as well as phantasmal spear heads following you when the weapon is drawn — Mesmers will particularly like the effect.
If Klowbjarne is not on your wishlist, then you’ll have the opportunity to select from four older Legendaries when the Wizard’s Vault refreshes with the update. The Greatsword Twilight, the Longbow Kudzu, the Warhorn Howler, and the Spear Kamohoali’i Kotaki all have starter kits available in the Wizard’s Vault and while they don’t provide everything you need to craft a Legendary they are a nice start to the process. New with Godspawn is a Legendary Starter Key that brings you to a special Mists Vault to review your available options since you’re limited to one selection of the four.
The Wizard’s Vault will contain also contain a new group of skins, with the three remaining pieces of the Rot Stalker armor skins available as well as a new Alabaster Spider’s weapon set, an Enchanted Warclaw mount skin, and a super-cute Dog Bench Chair to lounge around. As always if you missed out on prior appearances from the Wizard’s Vault they’re still available albeit for a higher cost, and the standard selection of items, resources, and gold remain.
While some players may lament the lack of a new zone in Godspawn, the return of raiding as well as a new Convergence and the associated progression of the story should help keep them entertained while they craft a new Legendary and work to unlock all the rewards in the Wizard’s Vault.
The Godspawn update is live right now, so check it out!
