From rats to robots, dice to demons, here are 10 great games for under $5 each in the Steam Winter Sale

It feels like just yesterday the Steam Autumn Sale ended, but now the Steam Winter Sale has begun and the sales will continue into the new year. There are plenty of great games in this year’s sale, but here we’re going to highlight ten absolute steals with ten quality games under $5 each to help you get through the holiday season. (Need more games? Epic is also offering freebies.)

Here are our low budget favorites from the latest Steam sale.

Tales from the Borderlands

Set between the events of Borderlands 2 and 3, this Telltale game lets you explore the deadly planet of Pandora as Rhys, a company man who aspires to replace the infamous Handsome Jack as the head of the Hyperion corporation, and Fiona, a clever con artist who can talk her way out of almost anything. When a shady deal goes awry, Rhys and Fiona must begrudgingly team up to get their due, running into vicious gangsters, cannibalistic bandits, and terrifying wildlife along the way.

Titanfall 2

Titanfall 2 might be my favorite FPS game of all time. You play as Jack Cooper, a rifleman of the Frontier Militia who ends up becoming the pilot of BT-7274, a Vanguard-class Titan. Wall run, jump, shoot, solve puzzles, and enjoy one of the best time travel missions in all of gaming (as well as enjoy the bonds between a man and his robot) in this title. Shame we’ll never see Titanfall 3.

Tails of Iron

Set in a grim land plagued by war, Tails of Iron is a hand-drawn RPG Adventure with punishingly brutal combat. As Redgi, heir to the Rat Throne, you must restore your broken kingdom by banishing the merciless Frog Clan and its ferocious leader, Greenwart. As you explore the deceivingly charming world, you’ll encounter a cast of unique companions, ready to aid you in your adventure. And you’ll need all the help you can get, whether that’s new meal recipes, blueprints to forge deadly weapons and armour, or even a land-chugging, armour-plated mole mobile!

Explore more than 40 lush hand-painted environments as you discover the secrets of the Calamity, a surreal catastrophe that shattered the world to pieces. Death’s Door

FTL: Faster Than Light

In FTL you experience the atmosphere of running a spaceship trying to save the galaxy. It’s a dangerous mission, with every encounter presenting a unique challenge with multiple solutions. What will you do if a heavy missile barrage shuts down your shields? Reroute all power to the engines in an attempt to escape, power up additional weapons to blow your enemy out of the sky, or take the fight to them with a boarding party? This “spaceship simulation roguelike-like” allows you to take your ship and crew on an adventure through a randomly generated galaxy filled with glory and bitter defeat.

Traverse snake-infested gulches, punch skeletons wearing cowboy hats, grapple with demon cows, and investigate a wide variety of disgusting spittoons. Talk your way out of trouble as a silver-tongued Snake Oiler, plumb the refried mysteries of the cosmos as a wise and subtle Beanslinger, or let your fists do the talking as a fierce Cow Puncher. Explore a vast open world and encounter a colorful cast of characters, some of whom are good, many of whom are bad, and a few of whom are ugly.
