Khadgar’s countdown is over, so here’s how to earn the Witness of the Kirin Tor title

For three weeks since patch 11.0.7 went live, every time we’ve taken a portal to Dornogal we’ve seen a countdown above Khadgar’s head tick down — but the wait is over. You can now return to him in Foundation Hall, where he’s holding council with Alleria Windrunner, and begin the Fate of the Kirin Tor quest line to earn the Witness of the Kirin Tor title. There won’t be any spoilers for the quest chain here — it’s not a long one, so you should experience it yourself if possible.

The Kirin Tor is the ruling mage council of Dalaran. We were a bit too busy to properly process the city’s destruction in the opening moments of The War Within, but it’s time to come to terms with the fact that we no longer have a floating metropolis to return to for all of our arcane needs. Khadgar begins by sending you out to the Tranquil Strand, the Dalaran crash site on the southwestern portion of the Isle of Dorn. Has asks you to check on Aethas Sunreaver, one of the Archmages of the Kirin Tor, who has been struggling since viewing the remains of Dalaran. The quest line includes cameos from some of Azeroth’s most powerful mages, past and present. However, many middle-rank mages and even apprentices show up to help each other grieve for Dalaran and its inhabitants who perished in the crash or the events surrounding it. While you’ll venture forth from the crash site during the quest chain, it’s not quite a whirlwind tour of every zone of Khaz Algar.

One of the main themes of the quest series is (as the name suggests) the future of the Kirin Tor. The group is without home base, and has been forced to reflect on past mistakes — so what should become of this powerful council of mages and the Kirin Tor as a whole? Knowing how power can corrupt, Khadgar, Aethas, and the rest of Azeroth’s arcane energy wielders have to grapple with what should be done.

To start Fate of the Kirin Tor, talk to Khadgar in the Foundation Hall in Dornogal and accept the first quest in the series, Survivor’s Guilt. The whole chain shouldn’t take more than an hour to run through. You must complete The War Within max level campaign to start this quest, so you’ll need to head to Foundation Hall with a character that has finished it. Use up some Valorstones before you begin to make sure the quest rewards won’t take you over the cap of 2,000. The reward for completing the whole chain is the Fate of the Kirin Tor achievement and the Warband-wide Witness of the Kirin Tor title.

Note that as of Tuesday afternoon, the title Witness of the Kirin Tor is bugged and only showing up on Alliance characters, but hopefully this will be fixed soon.
