Nintendo announces Switch 2, details to follow
Nintendo released a video today finally showcasing what we’d all concluded and then anticipated: they are going to release a Switch 2 console in the near future.
In somewhat typical Nintendo fashion, that’s it, that’s the post. Switch 2. Not much else.
They released a very fun, splashy trailer, which showcases a lot of the styling of the case of the new device, and also showed a small taste of what appears to be a Switch 2 Mario Kart title on the screen, but no real additional information. We’d expect the specs to be, of course, better than the original Switch, but the Nintendo ecosystem was never about overclocking or teraflops or ray tracing or whatever. It’s always been about making fun accessible and approachable, even after adding in an option with an OLED screen.
We do expect there to be several iterations of the Switch 2, just like there are with the Switch, which has Lite versions and OLED versions at varying price points, though we may not expect them to launch with the base model. We would also expect the Switch 2 to adopt a lot of the same family-friendly fare, while also allowing for room for titles like Diablo 4 to thrive.
My wishlist includes a bigger, better battery, because I don’t always remember to charge my devices before I hit the school pickup line.
Nintendo has announced a Direct to be held in April which will add more details.
