Diablo 4’s March of the Goblins expands its loot goblin line-up, proving that Diablo 3 did get a few things right

Diablo 4 has another event on the horizon, but with some (permanent) inclusions to the title that may look a little familiar. Yes, the March of the Goblins may run from March 4 to March 11, but these six new-to-D4 goblin variants are joining Sanctuary permanently. Let’s talk about the coming weeklong activity and the goblins returning to Sanctuary from 40 in-game years prior.

The March of the Goblins is a week of, well, goblin-murder adventures. Slaughter your way through their ranks to progress the event’s reputation track. which subsequently increases your chance of receiving goblin treasure bags. But never fear — their standard rarity does not apply. After all, how else will you kill your way through their ranks? The event window features increases chances for you to encounter goblins in a few different configurations, seeing the following:

  • Larger packs of Treasure Goblins.
  • Additional Greed Shrines
  • Treasure Goblin spawns during the Avarice, the Gold-Cursed World Boss fight.

But remember, it’s no longer only standard Treasure Goblins to kill in this event. Six additional types join the title’s lineup, adding a slew of reward variety to their pool. Look forward to the following newcomers and their specific goodies:

  • Odious Ector rewards crafting materials, including Obducite in Torment tiers.
  • Gilded Baron is pretty obvious; you’ll get gold, and lots of it.
  • Glittering Prym hoards goodies as shiny as it — Gem fragments, runes, and (in Torment tiers) Undercity Tributes and Scattered Prisms.
  • Curious Murl grants purple-matching Murmuring Obols. If you’re the type to adventure at full-Obol capacity, keep them in the bag until you’re ready to gamble a slew!
  • Gelatinous Syrus drops at least one Legendary item, with additional rewards (like gold, boss-summoning mats, and elixirs) from the smaller versions.
  • Fancy Old Fedric is the rarest of spawns, but killing one results in a Mythic Unique and Resplendent Spark.

Now, it’s understandable if any of these sound familiar. You can map them easily to Diablo 3 counterparts — Odious Collector becomes Odious Ector, Gelatinous Sire becomes Gelatinous Syrus, and so on. They’re just getting unique, individual names.

So look out — from March 4 to March 11 look for extra goblins around Sanctuary. The different types are permanent additions to the game. Kill the additional quantities during the next week to increase the chances of them dropping sacks of rewards along with their usual goodies. Happy hunting!
