Moonshot Games reveals Wildgate, a crew-based PVP shooter that mixes vehicle combat and extraction elements, launching in 2025

Moonshot Games, a studio under the Dreamhaven company banner established by Mike Morhaime, announced Wildgate, a crew-based shooter set in a section of deep space called the Reach. The game is scheduled to launch later in 2025 on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, so there isn’t very long to wait for this one. The announcement was made by Moonshot Game Studio Head Jason Chayes and Game Director Dustin Browder during the Dreamhaven Showcase 2025 and included a deeper look at what Wildgate is, how it works, and some gameplay to tease player interest.
In Wildgate, players team up in crews of four and take on the role of Prospectors, a character with different abilities, classes, and specializations. Each crew will compete against four other crews of Prospectors in a 20-player match with a single goal — find and claim the Artifact before the other teams and escape through the Wildgate. Pivotal to each crew is a customizable ship that will help them claim the Artifact and survive or eliminate other crews. During these matches, players will also need to collect resources, maintain their ships, and navigate against environmental hazards like asteroids as they hunt the Artifact.
Wildgate does include an adventure track with some kind of chapter-style progression, though we don’t know much about how it works at this momentm. Customization for your ship and for your Prospectors is also a core aspect of gameplay, and while this is also a large unknown, it’s likely tied to completing objectives during different matches. Even though Wildgate has a degree of exploration, material farming, and customization options, it is primarily a PVP-based game.
If you’re interested in trying out Wildgate, you can sign up to participate in an upcoming public playtest on your platform of choice: Steam, PS5, or Xbox Series X|S. This playtest starts on April 10 9AM pacific time and ends on April 14 5PM pacific time. There are limited spots, however, so signing up doesn’t guarantee entry.
Wildgate has an interesting premise and with a mesh of Overwatch‘s character and weapon design, Sea of Thieves vehicle combat, and The Division‘s extraction element set in space, we’ll be watching this one closely!
