How to create Scarlet Crusade disguises in WoW Classic Season of Discovery

WoW Classic Season of Discovery Phase 8 revolves mainly around the Scarlet Enclave, which is both the name of the new raid and a zone players can explore and quest in once the phase goes live on April 8. The Scarlet Enclave zone is made up of Tyr’s Hand and New Avalon, with elite-level Scarlet Crusade NPCs inhabiting the area. It remains to be seen if Havenshire, another Scarlet town connected to the zone, will be an explorable area or if it will appear in the raid.

One of the core activities in Phase 8 is infiltrating New Avalon as part of the quest storyline leading up to the raid. New Avalon also has new rewards, including gear and recipes for players to earn. But order to complete quests and get these rewards, players will need to disguise themselves as members of the Scarlet Crusade to walk around town safely (relatively). These disguises are available for testing on the PTR, so they’re still subject to some change until launch but until then, here’s what you need to know about creating Scarlet Crusade disguises in Phase 8.

How do Scarlet Crusade disguises work?

Players will need to create and wear four Scarlet Crusade disguise pieces and wear the Scarlet Insignia or the Tabard of the Scarlet Enclave in order for their disguise to be effective. Alternatively, you can wear four set pieces from the raid. The Scarlet Insignia will likely be the more available option since it’s quest reward for completing Gathering Intelligence, which is also one of the quests you need to complete in order to gain access to New Avalon.

Wearing all of these pieces will allow you to explore New Avalon and have friendly interactions with the Scarlet NPCs in the area — some of them will provide vendor services, including selling new recipes and items, and some will have quests for you to complete. Scarlet Bloodhounds are able to see through these disguises and if you get too close to them, they’ll expose you, and you’ll have to face the wrath of the nearby Scarlet townsfolk and militia.

How to create Scarlet Crusade disguises

There is a craftable Scarlet Crusade disguise set for each armor type and each set is composed of eight pieces, all of which can be learned provided you have the relevant profession and profession level. A datamined object from the PTR called the Crusader’s Loom may be used in crafting some of these items but right now we don’t know.

Most disguise crafting recipes will drop from killing Scarlet Crusaders in the area, but some only come from the Scarlet Enclave raid, though we don’t currently know if they’ll drop from mobs or bosses. Each item piece provides different stat boosts to your character in addition to functioning as a disguise.

Profession-specific ingredients needed

The type of profession-specific ingredients used to create disguise pieces is consistent, but the number of ingredients needed varies based on the item. Here are the crafting levels and basic components you’ll need to craft these sets:

  • Cloth — Tailoring level 270 minimum
    • Bolt of Runecloth
  • Plate — Blacksmithing level 270 minimum
    • Thorium Bar
  • Leather/Mail — Leatherworking level 270 minimum
    • Rugged Leather and Cured Thick Hide

Unique ingredients needed

There are some unique crafting ingredients used in each recipe that are found in the open world or instanced content, usually dropped by elite-level enemies:

Since these items are on the PTR, their ingredients, drop sources, and stat benefits may change but we’ll know more about the Scarlet Enclave everything within it once Phase 8 launches in April!
